Aged 0
  1. 1901 Census - Merly Stables, Higher Merly, Canford Magna, Dorset. There was a Boarder a Walter Bailey, aged 17 a Groom Domestic, born Aldershot, Hampshire. Florence Jessie is down as Jessie on this census but on the BMD she is down as Florence Jessie.
  2. 1891 White Horse Laundry, High Street, Poole, Dorset. This looks as though it was a training area as there are a lot of females at the premises, most are down as training for Laundry Maid, there are only two, Jessie being one of them who is actually down as a Laundry Maid. There is a Matron and a Laundry Matron as well. As Jessie is down as being born in Albury, Surry and this is how she is shown with her children on the 1901 Census I am certain it is the correct person, but she is down as being 23 which would make her birth date 1868 which is two years older than she is shown on the 1901 Census.
  3. 1881 Census - Village, Albury, Surrey. On Ancestry.com they have Jessie as being 18 but looking at the actual Census I think it is 13 which would make her the age she says she is in 1891. She is place after a child who is 14 so I am even more certain it says 13. Also she is down as a Scholar which I would think was unlikely if she was 18. The occupations for Timothy and Charles on Ancestry have been interpreted as Fly but I do not think it is, but I cannot read it, it looks like Tily.
  4. On 13th November 2007 Andy BROWN emailed me about the above chart. It alters various parts of it which have now been amended to take in his comments which I believe to be correct. I was not happy about Jessie NEVES, but I was looking for a marriage around 1863 whereas it should have been later: he wrote; I don't think that "Jessie Neves" is the wife of Timothy Thomas Appleton. On the 1871 census, Timothy Appleton and his wife "Jane" (age 30,born Chichester) are living with Timothy's father in law Henry Brookfield (61). So I reckon Timothy's wife is "Jane Brookfield" born around 1841 in Chichester. Also, information on the "White family tree" on ancestry.co.uk suggests that "Jane Brookfield" is not the mother of all these kids - only those from Edith (1870) onwards. The 1871 census also gives Cecily (not Cecil as given I think - down as a daughter) as 1 month child of Jane and Timothy. The first wife/mother was apparently Elizabeth Osborne born abt 1836 in Albury, Surrey, who apparently died in 1868. I'm going by the OneWorldTree and the "White family tree" here. That tree has info on hundreds of Appletons, so I assume he knows what he's talking about. Anyway, Jessie Neves appears to be a red herring (?)
  5. 1891 Census - Orphanage School, East Grinstead, Sussex. Florence and Gertrude are down as being born in Albury in 1878 and 1881 but they are down as Orphans, so assume their parents had both died by 1891.
  6. 1891 Census - Bowling Green Cottage, Holy Trinity, Guildford, Surrey. Frederick and Henry were boarders at this address with a Sarah FIBBINS, a Widow of 59 living on he own mean, born Godalming, Surrey
  7. 1891 Census - Alnwick Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland. A servant to Earl Henry George PERCY a Peer of the Realm aged 41 born St Georges, London.
  8. 1891 Census - 48 Manor Street, Clapham, London. Charles was a boarder at this address with a George BETTLES a butcher and his wife.
  9. 1891 Census - Chapel Road, Addlestone, Chertsey, Surrey. George was a Boarder on this census with an Annie PARNTHER a widow of 33 living on her own means, born Addlestone, Surrey
  10. There was an Isabella Jane APPLETON on the BMD born March quarter of 1884 in Guildford district who could also be a child of this family, I cannot find her on a Census, but she is the only child remaining when you being up APPLETON's born Guildford district between 1861 and 1891. I have put her on this Chart, but it could be incorrect. I have found her death down as being in Hambledon.
  11. 1871 Census - Albury Street, Albury, Surrey. I have put down Cecily (see note 4) but on this Census, the BMD birth and the BMD death it is down as Cecil in all cases. However she is definitely a daughter as was registered for birth and death as Cecil Maud J. So it is possibly that they thought Cecil was a girls name. As shown in Andy BROWN's comments in Note 4 there was a Henry BROOKFIELD, father-in-law aged 61 born Chichester, Sussex, formerly a Grocer with the family.
  12. IGI Baptism. Various children's baptism's found. Note again that Cecil was down as such and we now have her third name as Jane, the IGI also gives her death date. The IGI also shows another baptism and death for Timothy and Elizabeth, for an Angelina which I have now added.
  13. 1861 Census - 35 Albury Park Mansion. Timothy was a Servant to Lord Loraine, an MP, JP, PC aged 50 born St Georges, London. and his family. There were visitors, a sister-in-law and several other servants in the Household.
  14. IGI Marriage, so giving us the actual date and place of marriage
  15. IGI Marriage, so giving us the actual date and place of marriage
  16. 1851 Census - Herbert Street, Buckland, Kent. Timothy's father was a Charles APPLETON, a widower aged 66 a Farm Labourer, born Preston, Kent. Other siblings were Charles aged 24 a Farm Labourer, born Ash, Kent and Emily aged 20 born Ash, Kent. Emily and Timothy are down for occupation as Farm Labourer's daughter and Farm Labourer's son.
  17. 1841 Census - Castle Hill, Charlton, Kent. Certain correct family although Timothy's age not quite correct, but Father is down as Charles and there is a son Charles and a daughter Emily which ties up with the 1851 Census. On this Census Timothy's father is down as a Toll Collector and age is given as 50 (but remember ages were to the nearest 5 or 10 years depending on who took the Census), his mother is down as Elizabeth aged 40, then there is Charles aged 14, Edward aged 12, Emily 10 and Timothy 3.
  18. 1901 Census - 36 Granfield Street, Battersea, London. Children - Charles, Aged 4 born Battersea, London, Albert 2 born Battersea, London, Florence 1 born Battersea, London.
  19. 1901 Census - 23 Relf Road, Camberwell, Surrey. It would appear that George had married Annie who he was boarding with on the 1891 Census, as the eldest children are down as step children. His wife Annie is the correct age and born in Addlestone, Surrey, so certain correct family. Children: Charles W, aged 20 Step Son, ??? Clerk, born Kentish Town, London, Arthur S, aged 17 Step Son, Auctioneers Clerk, born Harpenden, Middlesex, Anne S aged 15 Step Daughter, born St Albans, Hertfordshire, Hilda 8 Daughter born Camden Town, London and Florence M Daughter, born Camden Town, London
  20. 1901 Census - 253 Milligan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire. They had an unnamed son who was 16 days old born in Leicester. With the family was Harriet CARTER, mother-in-law a widow aged 48 a Housekeeper born in Spondon?, Derbyshire.
  21. 1901 Census - 41 High Street, Uxbridge, Middlesex. Frederick was a Servant with a John STAMFORD a Butcher and his family.
  22. 1901 Census - 18 ???, St John, Paddington, Middlesex. Florence was a Servant with a George HENDERSON, a Barrister and Solicitor and his family.
  23. 1901 Census - "Coachman's Lodge", The West Acres, Benwell, Northumberland.  They had a son a Norman W HOLMES, aged 1 born Benwell, Northumberland.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
