  1. 1841 Census - Lenks Street, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Found family on this Census, you cannot see actual census on Ancestry so not the full details but would think they were in some sort of institution/home as there are fifty on people in the Household. They are down as ARTES but definitely the correct family. Richard (born in England), Margaret, William, Alexander and a "Burd" aged 5 (correct age for James) no Richard born 1832 on this Census
    IGI Marriage

Explanation as to how I have found details for this family in Scotland
I could find any other members of this family in Scotland on the Censuses. The Granddaughter Sarah Ann appears on the 1871 Scottish Census as a Stepdaughter, with a Mary ARTIS as the Head of family and two children George (Georgina on IGI baptism) ARTIS aged 5 and Mary E ARTIS aged 3 but again no male so do no know where she belongs.
On the 1891 Scottish Census there is a Mrs Wm ARTIS as a Boarder, in the same household there is a Margaret BAXTER but she is born in 1835 in Aberdeen, and is down as sister in law to a William RAE, so possible some connection to the Margaret BAXTER above, but nothing to prove it.
Using the IGI and finding the marriage of Richard Clark ARTIS to Mary JOSS I have found the baptism of Mary E(dith) ARTIS in 1868 so that confirms the two children and the Mary above, Still have to find which of the remaining three sons above that Sarah Ann belongs to. Now think that Richard married twice and that Sarah was a child from the first marriage. I would think that Sarah ARTIS née DONALDSON died before the 1861 Census which is why she is living with her Grandmother. I have now covered all the entries, marriages and baptisms shown in Aberdeen for ARTIS in the 1800's, so no sign of anything for Alexander or James.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
