  1. 1861 Census - Great Oakley, Essex
1871 Census - On the Green, Tendring, Essex. It appears that Nathan married again in 1867. We have a child John born 1861 for the first marriage but he does not appear on the 1871 Census. There is a daughter, a Ruth CANN aged 7 born Tendring, Essex, so perhaps Sarah had her without being married, then there is an Ann BARKER, aged 7 born Great Oakley, Essex, a George C BARKER, aged 6 born Tendring, Essex, a Caroline BARKER aged 4 born Tendring, Essex and a Morris BARKER, aged 10 months, born Tendring, Essex. (I have set out the chart above, but as can be seen there is some doubt about which children belong to whom. I originally has Ann as a child of Sarah, Harriet died in 1864 so possibly she died when she had Ann and I have not put Ann as a child of Harriet and Nathan. That leaves George as a child after Harriet had died and before Nathan had married Sarah, and Caroline born in the same year as Nathan and Sarah married.
1881 Census - 68 Wistaton Road, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire. On this Census with the family moving to Cheshire, there is a George CANN, stepson. I think this is the same child that is down as George BARKER on the 1871 Census. I have therefore moved him to be a child of Sarah.
1891 Census - 28 Fleet Street, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire.
1901 Census - 10 John Street, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire.
1911 16 Wellington Square Crewe, Cheshire. With Endora and her husband is Nathan, Father a Widower
  2. 1841 Census - Swan Yard, Great Oakley, Essex
1851 Census - Village, Great Oakley, Essex
1861 Census - Great Oakley, Essex
  3. 1871 Census - On the Green, Tendring, Essex. It appears that Nathan married again in 1867. We have a child John born 1861 for the first marriage but he does not appear on the 1871 Census. 1891 Census - No 4 Sheen Road, Sea Bank Road, Liscard, Wallasey, Wirrall, Cheshire. Caroline was a Domestic Servant to a Edith ELLWOOD, a widow born Staffordshire. Caroline is down as being born near Harwich, Essex which is correct. Ancestry.com has it indexed as New Harwich, Essex
1901 Census - 20 Nile Street, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire

There is a marriage on the BMD of a George CANN to a Mahala Ellen HANDSLEY in December quarter of 1887 in Peterborough. Ellen was born in Lincolnshire, so it is possible this is the correct marriage and she did not use the name Mahala, but I am not certain. I can find no other possible marriage at this time.

1891 Census - 74 Oakley Street, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire. There were two boarder, a William Edward SWANN, aged 24 born Sydenham, Kent. He married Caroline BARKER on the above chart in 1893, and a Jonathan WILLIAMSON, aged 58 a Night Watchman born Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire. Ruth is down as Head but not widowed on this Census.
1901 Census - 28 Brooklyn Street, Monks Coppenhall, Cheshire

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
