  1. 1851 Census - Church Yard, Chelmondiston, Suffolk
1881 Census - "Ivy" Vessels, Ramsgate, Kent. his wife and family were with him. The mate was a Thomas Wells BENNETT, aged 18 born London, Middlesex.
    1891 Census - Not found
1901  - 92 Wakering Road, Barking, Essex. I have put possible, although I am fairly certain this is the correct Benjamin as on Ancestry.com on a Family Tree this is the address where in 1903 they have Benjamin's death. However I cannot find him on the 1891 Census and his wife is now a Emma Mary aged 45 born Ingatestone, Essex. I cannot find Elizabeth's death or the marriage to Emma Mary. None of the children on the 1901 Census match those on the 1881 Census, but they were all born after 1881. I will put the details on the chart above. Benjamin is down as being born in Ipswich, Suffolk.
  2. 1851 Census (Scottish) - Arthur St Mclartys Ld, Greenock East, Renfrewshire
1861 Census - 16 Dellornor Terrace, Poplar, Middlesex. (We have a small doubt if Benjamin's first wife was Elizabeth WELLS but definitely Elizabeth and born in Southampton and born around 1843, this exactly fits the Elizabeth WELLS on this census and the fact they were living in Poplar makes it most likely that it is indeed correct). (I am now certain that this is the correct family having found a BENNETT Grandson with the WELLS family on the 1871 Cesnsus) Her parents were Thomas WELLS, aged 48 a Boiler Maker born Spatry, Cumberland, his wife was Jean aged 49 born Paisley, Johnstone?, and siblings Thomas 21 a Boiler Maker born Paisley Jonstone, Robert 15, born Southampton, Hampshire, James Enoch 11 born Southampton, Hampshire and Archibald, 7 born Greenock, Renfrewshire. It would appear that they moved around the country making boilers for the shipbuilding industry.
1881 Census - "Ivy" Vessels, Ramsgate, Kent.
  3. 1861 Mile Green, Ingatestone, Essex
    1871 Quince Hall, Blackmore, Essex
1890 27 Thomas Street, ??? (address at marriage)
1891 Frances Cottages, Emma Road, Plaistow, West Ham. (I have not actually found this on Census, but Kate REMFRY says she thinks that was the address on a very damaged page on he Census.

Father Charles HARRIS, aged 48 a Farm Labourer born Burstall, Essex, mother Julia 47 born Burstall, Essex, siblings, Emma 24 unemployed domestic servant, born Burstall, Essex, Henry 17 Farming work born Burstall, Essex, David 14 Scholar born Burstall, Essex, then Joseph born Dagenham, Essex, and finally Mary Ann 9 a Scholar, born Dagenham, Essex.

Louisa was 6 months old, down as granddaughter, her parents were Joseph REED, down as son-in-law aged 28  an Ag Lab born East Ham, Essex, mother was Susannah (WISEMAN) daughter, aged 21 a Laundress, born Dagenham, Essex. Her parents who were with them and the Head of Household were Thomas WISEMAN aged 61 an Ag Lab born Dagenham, Essex and Esther aged 64 a Laundress born Barking, Essex.
    1881 Upney Lane, Barking, Essex.

On the 28th September 2009 I heard from a Kate REMFREY regarding this family. This child George James BENNETT was not on my chart but he was Kate's Grandfather. There was a lot of information in her email and it will take sometime to transfer it all to this Chart, so I have put her email as follows:
I first noticed your charts because of Mike Bennett.
Benjamin Bennett is a Great grandfather of mine.
Benjamin Bennett was probably married to Elizabeth Wells Possible Pro ref M. Mar 1862 Lambeth 1d 328, although I haven't sent for a cert.
There is a Thomas Wells Bennett on the Ivy who was probably a son as well as being the mate.
There is a possible Ref for his birth Jun 1863 Poplar 1c 690 .
I am related to Benjamin through his second wife Emma Mary Webb b c 1859 Stock Chelmsford.
They were married 7th October 1890 at St Paul's Bow Common, Mile End Old Town. Both had their address at time of marriage as
    27 Thomas St.
Benjamin and Emma had 8 children though the first Albert Ernest was probably born a Webb.
Ernest is on the 1991 census aged 6 with his maternal Grandparents, Aaron Webb and Susannah Webb nee Morgan.
They are all living at Little Coal Harbour Rainham in the Romford district
In 1891 Emma aged 32 was living at what looks like Frances Cottages in Emma Rd West Ham, Plaistow
I came across the page on my 1891 census of Essex. The page is much damaged and there is no information as to where they all were born
Emma Mary has sic Gwinny (Gwenllian Honour from the first marriage of Benjamin ) a scholar ,no age decipherable ,plus Annie and Fanny from
her relationship with Benjamin. Benjamin must have been at sea.
On the 1901 census Benjamin and Emma are at 92 Wakering Rd Barking with Albert Ernest, Annie Eunice, Fanny Alice, Samuel Benjamin,
Louisa Maud, Edward Alfred and Florrie Elsie Victoria. Another child my Grandfather is not there because in 1901
he was in the Upney Hospital Barking aged 4yrs
My Grandfather George James Bennett was born 4 Oct 1896 at 45 new St Barking his father's occupation at this time was General labourer.
Upon his father's death my grandfather was adopted out to childless relatives of his mother.
He had some contact with the family but not enough for me to give dates etc.
Emma Mary remarried after Benjamin died to a Joseph (Tom ) Harris PRo Ref M. Dec 1908 Romford 4a 806.
Emma Mary Harris died 2nd Dec 1940 aged 82 at Rainham Essex probably at Bluetts cottages.
She was buried in the Rainham Cemetery Private grave No 130 Sec B
Benjamin Bennett was buried on the 22 Jan 1903 in an unmarked Grave in the Rippleside Cemetery Barking.
He is also down as labourer. I think he suffered ill health he was certainly overweight.
According to my Grandfather, Benjamin Bennett had been a Trinity House Pilot.
He worked for Appolinaris waters later to become Schweppes and travelled the Rhine. He was able to navigate the mouth of the Rhine.
I have a picture of the whole family with the exception of Edward and Florrie Elsie, both not born, purportedly taken at Bonn am Rhine Germany.
Emma Mary often went with him on trips.
I am gradually adding to my certs. when I find refs that look to be the most correct.
All of the younger boys Samuel Benjamin, George James, and Edward Alfred fought in the first World war. They all survived
Samuel fought in the Middle East and after went to live in Canada. George James was invalided out after getting a foot injury from an exploding
shell. Edward Alfred suffered shell shock and lived in his bedroom at his mother's for most of his life.
Two of the younger girls were supposed to have come to Australia something I am currently pursuing.
Two PRO refs that I am sure of are for Birth registration Edward Alfred Jun qtr 1899 Romford and Florrie Elsie Victoria Mar qtr 1901 Romford
Hope this will assist you to modify your chart.
    Regards Kate Remfry

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
