    Information from Frances PEEL 27/7/2006
What I know about the NORTONs is from my grandmother Nellie and then through this history of Oklahoma written in 190?. Gram said her mom (Elizabeth Ramsey NORTON) was pregnant with her when they moved from Plano, Texas to Greer County in Oklahoma in 1889, the year of the Sooner rush into Oklahoma - when the government let people into the state to settle the land and everyone jumped the gun and went in before the horn sounded. My great-granfather, John NORTON was the first treasurer of Greer County as Oklahoma was given statehood in 1907.
I was also raised with a lot of talk about my grandfather COBB's (I think) relationship as 'cousin' to Jesse JAMES. Cousin may have been used loosely, but some rather ugly yellow oak bedroom furniture was in one of the bedrooms in my Gram's house and they always referred to it as Jesse's furniture given to them by his mom. When Gram died this furniture was dispersed among the children and some of it remains in my cousin's house. It could have been my grandmother who was related or not. I tend to think they were telling the truth, first because of who they were as people of integrity, but second because there was not great pride in this relationship, a little feeling of shame instead. Anyway I have been trying to verify what it was they meant. I knew them and lived with them in the forties during WWII, so it is difficult now to piece together the information.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
