1901 20 Main Street, Millom Cumberland. With the family was a George K CRANKE aged 16 a Nephew a Joiners Apprentice born Muncaster, Cumberland.
1911 Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. I cannot find James in England after 1901 Census, but this James ties up with him, down as born in April 1889 in England and Emigrating in 1909. He appears to have made several trip back to England over the years. He is down as head but immediately above him is a Eleanor M HOWORTH who was born in November 1886 in England and emigrated in 1908, so as I have not found his sister on this Chart I believe that is who he had gone over to be with. Her husband was a John E HOWORTH born August 1885 and had Emigrated in 1902 he was also down as a Farmer
(The name HOWORTH could be HOWARTH)
John E HOWORTH aged 62 Retired and Eleanor M HOWORTH aged 59 made a trip to England in April 1946 on the Ile de France departing form Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They land on 14th April 1946 at Southampton. There destination in England was 15 Bay View, Millom, Cumberland. I think proving my theory on that this was Eleanor HOWORTH née CRANKE on the Canadian 1911 Census. Canada is down as the place of last permanant residence but did they return.
  6. 1891 6 Lonsdale Terrace, Millom, Cumberland. With the family was a Mary PERRY aged 15 a Servant born Whitehaven, Cumberland
1901 20 Main Street, Millom Cumberland. With the family was a George K CRANKE aged 16 a Nephew a Joiners Apprentice born Muncaster, Cumberland.
1909 James went to Canada on Empress of Britain arriving in Quebec on 9th April 1909. His age is correct as being born in 1888 (see Army records) and he was heading for Alberta where I have found his sister. He is down as being a Clerk and intending to be a Clerk when he arrives in Alberta.
1916 It would appear that James was a Soldier in the Second World War with the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. His age is not quite right but possibly made himself a bit younger than he was, but these details give for his next of Kin tie up with his mother. (He gives his birth date as 12th April 1892) Detail Surname CRANKE, Christina Name James, Present address C/o Headquarter MD 13, Where born Millom, Cumberland, England. Next of Kin Mrs Hannah CRANKE 4 Settle Street, Millom, Cumberland, England. Relations to next of Kin Mother, then that birth date, His trade in 1916 (he time of this Attestation Paper) s down as Chauffeur. He is not married, he has been inoculated and he belongs to the 15th Light Horse and had served in the 8th Field Amb. 137th O.BN, C.E.F.
1953 It apears that James made a trip to Liverpool England arriving 3rd July 1953 on the Empress of Scotland from Montreal, Quebec. He was down as being 65 Retired and heading for 3 Mainsgate Road., Millom, Cumberland. He appears to have a wife Gladys aged 59 a Housewife, also going to the same address.
  7. 1891 6 Lonsdale Terrace, Millom, Cumberland. With the family was a Mary PERRY aged 15 a Servant born Whitehaven, Cumberland
  8. 1901 20 Main Street, Millom Cumberland. With the family was a George K CRANKE aged 16 a Nephew a Joiners Apprentice born Muncaster, Cumberland.
1911 4 Settle Street, Millom, Cumberland.
  9. Found a death for a Sarah Whineray CRANKE in correct area aged 0, as the Whineray in name must be a child of this family. (now have 9 of the 10 children that Hannah said she had had on the 1911 Census.
  10. 1901 20 Main Street, Millom Cumberland. With the family was a George K CRANKE aged 16 a Nephew a Joiners Apprentice born Muncaster, Cumberland.
1911 4 Settle Street, Millom, Cumberland.
There are the following children Thomas H GARNETT born September quarter 1927 Bootle district, Cumberland, Frederick L GARNETT born December quarter 1931 Bootle district, Cumberland and Dorothy M GARNETT June quarter 1936 born Kendal district, Cumberland with CRANKE as the mothers maiden name who I believe to be children of this couple.
  11. 1901 20 Main Street, Millom Cumberland. With the family was a George K CRANKE aged 16 a Nephew a Joiners Apprentice born Muncaster, Cumberland.
1911 4 Settle Street, Millom, Cumberland.
The only child who comes up with BUTCHER as surname and CRANKE as the mothers maiden name is for a Frank BUTCHER born September quarter 1932 in Lambeth district, London. This could be a child of this couple.

I have spent some time on this chart and have found more of the family. the only person I have not found is  Elizabeth Mary CRANKE after the 1901 Census. All the other children are now accounted for, two of them went to Canada.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
