Abel is down correctly as being born in Norfolk and being a Licensed Victualler, so what has happened to Sarah, George, Hannah and possibly John who appear on the 1861 Census and are all over 10 years old. There were three servants with the family a Barmaid, a General servant and a Potman.

1871 Census - ?B Great Brompton Road, Kensington, Middlesex. There were two servants  and a Maria MICKLEFIELD, a grandchild, aged 7 born Kensington, Middlesex (see MICKLEFIELD Cart 0400)
  3. 1839 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of Sarah)
1841 Census 1 Charles Street, Manchester Square, Marylebone, Middlesex. With the family was a John PORRIDGE age 15 a male servant and a Mary HEARNE aged 15 a Female servant.
1851 Census - Beach, Lowestoft, Suffolk. The CROWFOOT children appear to be staying with a Benjamin COOK a Bathing Machine Proprietor who was born in Lowestoft. His wife is Charlotte an Assistant Bathing Machine Proprietor also born in Lowestoft and both are 46 year of age. I have put down the wife as she might be the one related to the CROWFOOT family. There are then nine COOK children which I will not list and then down as Lodgers are the CROWFOOT children
1861 Census - The Zetland Army Public House, Bats Street, Brompton, Kensington St Mary Abbott, Middlesex. (That is what the public house seems to be named) There were servants and lodgers as well with the family.
1863 4 Rupert Terrace, Camden Town, Middlesex (baptism of Maria)
1867 34 Redhill Street, Camden, Middlesex (baptism of Clara)
1865 23 St James? Road (? place - Kensington or Camden) (baptism of Emily)
1871 Census - 34 Redhill Street, St Pancras, Middlesex. There was a Mary Ann CRAWLEY with Charles and Sarah on this Census. She was a Visitor, aged 60 and born in Scotland.
1881 Census - 62 Gloucester Crescent, Regents Park, St Pancras, Middlesex. There was a Servant, a Margaret LUNEMAN, age 49 a General Servant, born Kensington, London
1891 Census - 62 Gloucester Crescent, St Pancras, Middlesex.
  4. 1841 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of Maria)
1871 Census - 12 Silver Street, Golden Square, St James Westminster, London. I am fairly certain this is the correct marriage and family on the 1871 Census. It would appear they married in 1860 but on the 1871 Census they have only one child a James Lane, aged 2 weeks born in Westminster St James, which at that period of time was a little unusual. They could have lost children born before then. I really cannot make out the occupation of James, it looks clear enough but make no sense whatsoever. The nearest I can think of for the second two word is Detonator Monitor, but it still does not make sense.
  5. 1843 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of George)
(That is what the public house seems to be named) There were servant and lodgers as well with the family.
There is a death from a George CROWFOOT as shown for George above but I can find no trace of him on the 1871 or 1881 Censuses.
  6. 1845 1 Charles Street, Langham, Manchester Square, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of James)
  7. 1846 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of Charles)
  8. 1848 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of Hannah)
1861 Census - The Zetland Army Public House, Bats Street, Brompton, Kensington St Mary Abbott, Middlesex. (That is what the public house seems to be named) There were servant and lodgers as well with the family.
1881 Census - Villas, Palmerston Road, Harrow, Middlesex. There is a Hannah CROWFOOT of the correct age living at this address and born in Middlesex. Nothing else to go on, she is a spinster and is living on the mean of a friend. I think this is the correct person, as there are no other Hannah CROWFOOTS on this Census.
  9. 1850 1 Charles Street, Langham, Marylebone, Westminster, London (baptism of John)
1861 Census - The Zetland Army Public House, Bats Street, Brompton, Kensington St Mary Abbott, Middlesex. (That is what the public house seems to be named) There were servant and lodgers as well with the family.
No trace of John after the 1861 Census but have now found a marriage for him.
1891 19 Caltnor Road, Shepher's Bush, London (address at marriage)
Information for Louisa Maria DUNN née WOODWARD
1891 216 Grange Road, Bermondsey, London (address at marriage) Father Charles Frederick WOODWARD - Tailor
  10. 1853 Borough Road, Southwark, London. (baptism of caroline)
1861 Census - The Zetland Army Public House, Bats Street, Brompton, Kensington St Mary Abbott, Middlesex. (That is what the public house seems to be named) There were servant and lodgers as well with the family.
1871 Census - ?B Great Brompton Road, Kensington, Middlesex. There were two servants  and a Maria MICKLEFIELD, a grandchild, aged 7 born Kensington, Middlesex (see MICKLEFIELD Cart 0400)
1881 Census - The Fleece, 160 Abbey Street, Bermondsey, St Mary Magdalene, London
1891 Census - 63 High Street, Barnstaple, Devon. I am sure this is the right family, as there is a Caroline DUNTHORNE, wife, and a Charlotte and Ellen both of the right age as per the 1881 Census. However, firstly Robert is not with them but Caroline is down as married, secondly Caroline is down as being born in Southwark which she was not but that was where she was in 1881. The family as can be seen above for the younger children must have moved to Margate, Kent before moving to Barnstaple. On the 1881 the children were just down as being born in London, Middlesex, on this Census Charlotte is down as being born in Holborn, Middlesex and Ellen in Kilburn, so this is correct. The eldest and the youngest child, Caroline and Robert do not appear on this Census. As I say it is so close to being correct I feel that it is the right family. The other thing that seems strange is that on the 1881 Census Robert was a Licensed Victualler on the 1891 Caroline is a Temperance Hotel Keepers wife. So what had happened between 1881 and 1891 for them to go from one extreme to the other. They had a servant an Alfred Frederick FINDLAY who was 18 and a Billiard Marker.
1901 Census - 47 Southchurch Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Prittlewell, Essex. So they have moved again, and the Barnstaple bit must have been extremely brief as they had another son Alfred in Margate at the end of 1891. Robert is now a Commercial Traveller and there are more children. I think the Abel in their youngest child's name gives us the final confirmation that this is the correct family as this was the name of Caroline's father.
1911 49 Leathwaite Road Battersea SW. With the family was an Edith GIBBS a Servant aged 24 a Domestic Servant General born Ashford, Kent.
  11. 1855 Bute Street, Chelsea, London (baptism of William)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
