    Copy of Police Report
    At about 9 p.m. on 17th February 1941, approximatley 50 incendiary
bombs were dropped in the immediatly vicinity fo Barkworth Road, Camberwell,
S.E.16, resulting in about 23 outbreaks of fire in the particular locality.
Police Constable Fleming, who was off duty at his home (which was at
140 Barkworth Road at the time), promptly put out two bombs which had
fallen on his residence. He then quickly donned his serge jacket and
steel helment and proceeded to the aid of other fire fighter, giving advice
and assistance in extinguishing other incendiary bombs. He learnt that
incendiaries had penetrated throught the roof of No. 95 Barkworth Road
causing a fire in the upstairs flat occupied by a Mrs. Tuck, aged 90, who
was bedridden with rheumatism and in danger of being burned alive. Three
Attempts had been made to rescue the old lady by neighbouring residents, but
all were unsuccesddul owing the the intense heat and smoke.
Without hesitation P.C. Fleming entered the house, ran up the staris
into a room which was full of smoke, groped his way round but failed to
find a bed. He next place a handkerchief over hismouth, craweld along
on his hands and knees into another room which was on fire and eventually
found the bed on which the woamn was lying and groaning. He eased her to
the floor, dragged her along the landing and descended the stairs to the
street, when she was taken to a First Aid Post for treatment.
After having effected this rescue, Fleming assited the other
residents to put out further fires, and to quote the words of one witness
his leadership "put new life" into the voluntary fire fighters.
The P.C. then extinguished another incendiary bomb which had fallen
    on his home.
The courageous action of P.C. Fleming undoubtedly save the woman's
life and has aroused local admiratuon. The trapped woman is of exceptionally
Heavy build and, having regard to her advanced age, it is obvious that she
was rescued alive with considerable difficulty.
The Suprintendent of the Divisiion suggest that it is a
case which should be brought to the notice of t he Society for the Protection
    of Life from FIRE.
The Deputy Assistant Commissioner in charge of the District recommends
the officer for the award of the George Medal

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
