  1. 1881 2 Hillside Cottage, Forington, Dorset
1891 Greenings?. All Saints, Dorchester, Dorset
1901 Holme Bridge, East Stoke, Dorset. Living with them was their married daughter Annie SELBY
1911 1 Grey School Passage, Dorchester, Dorset, no wife present. Living with eldest son Albert and his family
  2. 1861 6 Woodbury Hill, Bere Regis, Dorset
1871 Woodbury Hill, Bere Regis, Dorset
1881 2 Hillside Cottage, Fordington, Dorset
1891 Greenings? All Saints, Dorchester, Dorset
1901 Holme Bridge, East Stoke, Dorset. Living with them was their married daughter Annie SELBY
1911 Milestone Road, Carteton, Black Bourton, Clanfield, S Oxon, Oxfordshire  (no husband present)
Information from Mike PREWER 30/12/2009 Carterton was set up in 1900 by Homesteads Ltd. a company established
in 1896 by the CARTER family of Parkstone to encourage people back to the land by selling them small holdings at reasonable cost.
    1939 Tandara, Victoria, Australia
    Information from M PREWER 30/10/2008
"Her death certificate shows she lived in Australia until September 1939, was 87 when she died, and had been in Australia since 1914. It also showed that she outlived her husband Henry whom she left in Dorchester when she took off 44 years after they were married. Her three children that she took were Elsie, Ada (after whom our aunt was named) and Reginald. I was always under the impression they were young when she left the England, but not so. They were 32, 29 and 24 years old respectively.
    Information from Mike PREWER 16/11/2008
"Just an update on what happened to Adah GOULD (nee COBB) when she (plus Charles Reginald, Elsie Gertrude and Ada) finally emigrated to Australia in 1914 after at least 2 (possibly 3) previous visits; some on sailing ships!!
According to my brother, our mother once recounted what happened to Grandmother GOULD. Apparently she worked her passages to Australia by looking after other (richer?) passengers' children. She later worked helping with old people possibly in Old Peoples' Homes."
    Information from Mike PREWER 30/12/2009
The earlier stuff about Adah leaving these shores before 1913 (in sailing ships related by my brother as my mother's memories) seems to be the subject of fantasy. I have now established evidence of the following from (Find my Past) passenger lists leaving the UK 1890-1960 and (Ancestry UK) Incoming passenger lists 1878-1960.
The (epic) voyages of Adah Cobb:-
Port of UK departure port was London and destination/return port was Melbourne except the 1929 and 1932 returns were to Sydney. What is certain is that Elsie is not listed on the first trip to Australia in 1913. All the other to's and fro's below were only Adah and daughter Ada.
Nevertheless Elsie must have got there somehow and have been in Australia for a sufficient time to be listed on the electoral register there in Werribee in 1924. There is a record of an Elsie Gould sailing to Fremantle in 1911 but I cannot (yet) confirm it was "our" Elsie.
    Date Ship Remarks Destination
28/1/1913 Port Lincoln Adah Gould plus Miss A Gould and Mr. C Gould Australia
26/1/1921 Euripides Adah plus Ada England
22/7/1921 Demosthenes Adah plus Ada Australia

1/1/1931 Oronsay Adah plus Ada England
20/4/1932 Otranto Adah plus Ada Australia
According to my second cousin David (Edgar) Gould, Adah's returns to England were prompted by Henry Gould's death in 1917 and sorting out his bequests to her. Apparently, she was the bane of his dad's (Robert Edgar) life each time she came back.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
