Effect £26725 13s. 7d. (National Probate Calendar) 1940 Obituary ALEXANDER HOUGHTON HAY 1891-1940 We regret to record the death of Mr Alexander Houghton Hay, late managing Director of Messrs. E. J. Hay & Co., Ltd. His loss will be a severe blow to the Company of which he was head, and he will be missed by many friends among the members of the Brewing Industry. From an early age he displayed a very keen interest in the scientific development of the Caramel business, with which he had been associated for over 30 years, and he was endowed with the exceptional quality of combining technical advancement with business acumen. He was untiring in his efforts to maintain the highest possible standard of perfection in his business career. Mr Hay was educated at Westcliffe College, Ramsgate, and he followed his scholastic career by a brewing course at Messrs. Sanfield's Brewery. Before taking over control of the Caramel business he founded the associate Company for the manufacture of "White Heather" Filter Pulp.
