Details from the Monumental Inscription for St John the Baptist Church, Meopham, Kent - Headstone and footstone Sacred / to the memory of / RICHARD BARNARD / who died October 8th 1837 / aged 59 years / also HANNAH wife of the above / who died December 9th 1856 / aged 77 years / also JAMES their son / born 25th September / died 11th December 1815 Footstone R.B. 1837, H.B. 1856, J.B. 1815. Then on the Monumental Inscriptions for Meopham there is the following - West facing: In memory of / MARY EDMEADES / wife of THOMAS EDMEADES / of the parish of Minster in the Isle of Sheppey / daughter of ROBERT and MARY HILLS / of this parish who departed this life the 12th July 1801 aged 37 years / also the above named / THOMAS EDMEADES / who died on the 14th day of March 1832 / aged 71 years / also REBECCA EDMEADES / daughter of the above / who died on the 20th November 1850 / aged 36 years [BR Robert (father) 27th January 1865, Mary 1800, GB Rebecca 1830] This would appear to give us a another daughter Mary who was 37 years old when she died in 1801. At present this makes her the eldest. (because the husbands and a daughter are mentioned I will put a chart on for this family.) Having looked at this again I cannot see how Rebecca EDMEADES was the daughter of Mary EDMEADES as Mary it says died in 1801 and Rebecca died in 1850 aged 36, so she was born after Mary died. Could Rebecca be a granddaughter of Mary. IGI IGI IGI IGI 1841 Ifield, Kent. Living with Hannah BARNARD (60) Farmer, were Patience BARNARD (25) Mary (11) and Thomas (5) all born Kent. Until proved otherwise we are assuming that Hannah was Thomas's grandmother, that Patience was a daughter of Hannah so Aunt to Thomas, and that Mary was a sister of Thomas. Living with her was son Thomas, his wife Sarah and daughter Emma, also niece Mary BARNARD (20 something) Grocers daughter born Gravesend, Kent HO107; Piece: 1609; Folio: 145; Page: 15; GSU roll: 193509.
