  2. 1881 10 Herne Terrace, Kensington, London. I think I have found Sophia, she is down as being born in Devizes, Wiltshire. She is down as being 22 and a Washerwoman and is with her parents, who are names George BARNES, aged 59 born Weningham, Kent and his wife Hannah BARNES aged 48 born Devizes, Wiltshire. Then there is Sophia down as Sophia SCOTT, and down as a daughter, there was something before this but it has been rubbed out. SO why Sophia surname SCOTT and not BARNES, had she been married or was she a Step daughter as the next person is down as a son and is a William SCOTT aged 16 a Bricklayers Labourer born Devizes, Wiltshire. The next two children are down as son and daughter but this is the reason I think I have found our Sophia. There are down as Charles aged 4 born Paddington, London and Hannah 5 months born Kensington, London, so other than the Hannah for Anna they ties up with the two children above. The occupation of Sophia as Washerwoman on Census and Laundress on marriage certificate also is close.
    I have added details of birth places etc on chart above, but it is possible they are incorrect.

    Charles and Anna are shown as HUCKLE on the 1891 census but were born before Alfred married Sophia. Charles was born 1877 and as Alfred was born 1862 he would have been about 15 when Charles was born. It is likely, therefore, that they were Sophia's children either with a previous husband, or as a "single" parent. I have therefore entered them as SCOTT until such time as we prove otherwise.
