    KEW, William James, Rifleman No. 5722.392245, 9th Battn, (Queen Victoria's Rifles) The London Regt. (T.F.), elder s of Walter Charles KEW, of 9 Marquess Road, Cannonbury, N., Royal Engineers, by his wife, Helena, dau, of William Henry Barlow, b in London 20 Nov 1897; educ at Tavistock Hill, N.W., and on leaving school entered the offices of Messrs. Anderson, Anderson & Co., Ship Brokers, where he served under the directions of Sir Alan F. Anderson, K.B.E.;, joined the Queen Victoria's Rifles in Nov. 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from the end of Dec. 1916 when for a time he was attached to No.1 Entrenching Battn. of the Royal Engineers, but rejoined his own regiment in April, 1917, and was killed in action at Guemappe, during the fighting at Arras 3 May following. Buried at Guemappe. His adjustant wrote that he fought with the traditional bravery of the British Soldier.
