  1. 1841 Cranley Common, Cranley, Hambledon, Surrey. In the same property were John GREENFIELD (30) Journeyman Miller and Mary FULLER (13) Servant neither were born in Surre1849 Cranley, Surrey (at marriage) Father John KILLICK - Farme

1851 Cranley Windmill, Cranley Common, Surrey. There were two servants with the family a Samson CHEESEMAN aged 20 employed at mill born Capel, Surrey and Elizabeth BIDLE aged 17 born Chiddingfold, Surrey.
William was the Miller on Cranleigh Common, having leased the mill from an Uncle. His father, John, was a tenant farmer who eventually moved to farm in Abinger where KILLICK's are still to be found. There is a superb farmhouse on the way to Abinger, which was his.
Presumably the marriage took place in Holmwood because his mother and brother were living there at that time. Joseph is described in the history of the area as the miller during this period. The church had not long been opened.
When William married Ann BOTTING he was employed as a miller at Ashington Mill. (A hotel is now on the site)
Information from an article in the papers of Janet ALLEN entitled "CRANLEY IN 1846"
"The next house we come to after passing a cottage is Windmill House, and KILLICK, the miller, who combines a little shop keeping with his milling is standing at his gate and tells us that trade is pretty fair, and that wheat is fetching between £13 and £14 a load".

???? Family lived in Capel, Surrey where Frederick was Miller
It is possible that information concerning the KILLICK family is difficult to find as some of them were Baptists
  5. 1841 Cranley Common, Cranley, Hambledon, Surrey. In the same property were John GREENFIELD (30) Journeyman Miller and Mary FULLER (13) Servant neither were born in Surrey
1851 Cranley Windmill, Cranley Common, Surrey. There were two servants with the family a Samson CHEESEMAN aged 20 employed at mill born Capel, Surrey and Elizabeth BIDLE aged 17 born Chiddingfold, Surrey.

There was also a Caroline OLDER, a Lodger, age 55 a Dressmaker, born Cranleigh, Surrey
Henry became the miller in Cranleigh after William’s death prior to the family selling out to the WELLER brothers. Janet ALLEN suspects they were having trouble making the mill pay. Records indicate that the brothers had to install an engine not long after they purchased the mill.
Henry and Emma had three children: Emma married William BLACKMAN, Ellen married William Robert BANSOR and Harry married Fanny Elizabeth EDWARDS
    Notes
Extract from "Old Glory" Vintage Restoration Today Magazine no 144 dated February 2002
    KING OF THE ROAD
    (Picture of a traction engine)
The machine in question is possible Burrel Gold medal tractor No. 3639 (AH 0231) new to William F WELLER of Milford, Surrey in January 1915. "Mr WELLER went into partnership with the STEMP brothers of Alford Road, Cranleigh, Surrey (now Cranleigh Freight Services depot). STEMPS were mainly timber hauliers in 1921.
No. 3639 was re-registered with a Surrey plate of PB 9636 and used by them until the late 1940s when it was sold for scrap. Mr WELLER also owned No. 3722 (registration PB 9856)
When the partnership split early in 1927, Mr WELLER's name was deleted from the order Burrell's had for a new tractor No 4072 (PH 2800), names "The Cranleigh Belle" which survives today as "Tinkerbell" owned by Mr Ron WALKER of Stanmore, Middlesex since 1976.
Other Burrel tractors that went through the STEMP and WELLER's hands were No 3361 (AH 076) for a year 1924/5, and No. 3852 (AH 0777) STEMPs from 1937 to being scrapped in 1947.
There is picture believed to have been taken at Abinger, Surrey or Rusper, Sussex - both of which would have been but a short journey from Cranleigh, thus adding more weight that this was the correct engine.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
