    1.
    2. 1851 Census - 1 Martha Street, Dulwich, Camberwell, Surrey
    3. 1841 Census - Portland Street, St Peters, Newington, Mary and Fanny were with an Agnes BARTON aged 65 occupation Independent born in Surrey
1851 Census - 1 Martha Street, Dulwich, Camberwell, Surrey
1861 Census -  5 George Street, Camberwell, Surrey. see note below. in 2014 the correct image appears but it does not solve a lot, Mary is the head and Sarah is down with the family as Mother. The actual children now I can see image are as follows but they are down as children of Mary A. There are not as many as originally shown but are Isabella aged 11, and Alfred aged 10 born Newington, London then Francis aged 8, Edgar aged 5, Harry aged 3 and Frederick aged 1 all born Camberwell, Surrey and all but Frederick are Scholars.
At the present time Ancestry is showing the wrong image for this Census but it appears that Mary Ann was the Head of Household, her mother was with her and there appears to be several children. I was trying to solve the children on the 1871, as can be seen Mary and her mother appear as widows on the 1871 Census, but why then has Mary the name MARTIN. The list for the 1861 shows numerous children including Isabella, child of Sarah? and Edgar child of Mary ?.
The list that comes up is
      Mary A Martin 23
      Alfred Martin 10
      Isabella Martin 11
      Francis Martin 8
      Alfred Martin 10
      Edgar Martin 5
      Francis Martin 8
      Henry Martin 3
      Edgar Martin 5
      Frederick Martin 1
      Harry Martin 3
      Sarah Martin 61
      Frederick Martin 1
So they cannot all be the children of Mary, so need to see actual census to see if this clears up anything, as can be seen Edgar appears twice as does Frederick so a complete muddle
1871 42 Rathbone Place, Marylebone, Middlesex
Mary Ann Dackombe was living/staying with her mother's family at the time of the 1871 Census at 42 Rathbone Place, Marylebone, Middlesex. The relationships are a little confusing. I think that the Head of the Household is her Grandmother, and if correctly described she would have been put down as Granddaughter, but I think that Fanny's sister Mary Ann MARTIN must have given the enumerator the information and given relationships as related to her, as I believe all the children described as son, daughter etc are the children of Mary Ann, and not of her mother Sarah. So bearing this in mind this is the information of the family living at 42 Rathbone Place.
Sarah MARTIN - Head - Widow - Age 77 - Housekeeper - born Tonbridge, Kent
      Mary A MARTIN - Daughter - Widow - Age 38 - Mantle Maker - born  Surrey, Newington
Frank MARTIN - Son - Age 17 - occupation? Waiter? - born Surrey, Camberwell
Edgar MARTIN - Son - Age 16 - Locksmith - born Surrey, Camberwell
Henry MARTIN - Son - Age 13 - Copyboy - born Surrey, Camberwell
Frederick MARTIN - Son - Age 11 - Scholar - born Surrey, Camberwell
Florence MARTIN - Daughter - Age 9 - Scholar - born Middlesex, Kensington
Mary A DACKOMBE - Niece - Age 14 - Mantle Maker - born Surrey, Camberwell
There was another family living at the same address, the wife was also a Mantle Maker.
    4. 1841 Census - Portland Street, St Peters, Newington, Fanny and her sister Mary Ann were with an Agnes BARTON aged 65 occupation Independent born in Surrey
1851 Census - 1 Martha Street, Dulwich, Camberwell, Surrey
1861 Census - 8 Townley Place, St Peters, Walworth Surrey (RG9/343)
      1871 Townley Street, St Peter's, Newington, Surrey  (RG10/620 Folio 130 Page 33)
1881 14 Nursery Row, Newington, Surrey. John's mother Mary Ann DACKOMBE was with the family.
1891 13 Guildford Road, Camberwell, Surrey. There was a Florence ARNOLD, Granddaughter aged 4 born Walworth, London with the family.

  • The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
