IGI - Baptism 1851 Census - Lower Churt, Frensham, Surrey. With the IGI and this Census I think that this is the correct family. Still have to find on other Censuses etc. Children: John 20 Pig Dealer born Elstead, Surrey, George 16 Pig Dealer, born Elstead, Surrey, Henry 13 born Frensham, Surrey, Jane 11 born Frensham, Surrey, William 9 born Frensham, Surrey, Elizabeth 6 born Frensham, Surrey, Martha 4 born Frensham, Surrey, and Eliza 2 born Frensham, Surrey. IGI marriage 1841 Census - Hownders?, Elstead, Surrey. Children: Caroline 14, John 9, Harriet 8, George 6 Henry 3 and Jane 1 all born Surrey. Younger children tie in so think correct family, only problem is Caroline who appears to have been born before the marriage I have found on the IGI. (Jane and John MATTHEWS baptisms appear on the IGI in Elstead, Surrey, John on 11th September 1831 and Jane on 17th June 1840. I suspect that the other will be in Frensham. There are four Frensham, Matthews baptisms with Charles as father and Elizabeth as mother. William 4th April 1842, Martha and Elizabeth 20th April 1845 and Eliza 19th June 1849. They all tie up with the children born after 1841 in Frensham on the 1851 Census. IGI baptisms at Thursley with Charles and Elizabeth as parents IGI baptism, found the baptism for Caroline, as Caroline COVER with only mother down as Elizabeth, so this clears up my comments in Note 4. 1861 Census - Frensham, Surrey. With the family was George MATTHEWS, aged 2 and Albert MATTHEWS aged 6 months both down as Grandsons and both born In Frensham, Surrey. 1871 Census - Frensham, Surrey. Children (all appear to be born Churt?), Henry 10 a Scholar, Alice 4 a Scholar, Rose 3 a Scholar and Albert 2 and William 6 months. (I have found amarriage on the BMD for a Henry and Clara but this would mean that Henry was born before the marriage of Henry and Clara, so it is possible that one of them had a previous marriage. Henry does not show as being married on the 1861 Census. 1871 Census - Morning Star, Beerhouse, Frensham, Surrey. I am certain this is the right family but Charles, the right age has decided he was born in Binsted (could be Birsted), Hampshire, and Elizabeth has decided that her name is Charlotte, right age, right birth place. George, Grandson who was with them on the 1861 is still with them as a Grandson. Jane their daughter is with them but she is married with the name COLLINS, but her husband is not with her. She is down as Farmers wife, she has two children, Minnie COLLINS, aged 3 born Elsted, Surrey and William COLLING aged 1 born Binsted, (could be Birsted), Hampshire. There is a BERMOTT family lodging with them Michael the Head is down as Ordnance Survey as occupation and was born in Ireland, then there is his wife and four children. 1881 Census - Wrecclesham Street, Farnham, Surrey. Jane is down as a widow and born in Churt, Surrey, but as the first two children tie up I am sure it is the correct family. Although her husband was not with her on the 1871 she has had three more children between 1871 and 1881. So Jane is down as being 41 and born in Churt, Surrey, Minnie is down as 13 a Scholar, and also down as being born in Churt, Surrey, William is 11, a Scholar and down as being born in Rowledge, Surrey, then there is Charles, 7 a Scholar born in Rowledge, Surrey, Alice 5 a Scholar born in Wrecclesham, Surrey and Albert 3 a Scholar, born in Wrecclesham, Surrey.
