1838 68 Parston Street, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London (at marriage) Father Robert ABERCOMBIE - Coachman. This looks like a definite marriage, but he was not with her after this date and on the 1841 Census she is down as MUNNS. This is a definite marriage, so why from 1851 to 1871 was she down as Jessie MUNNS
By 1841 Jessie is putting herself down as Jessie MUNNS so what happened to this marriage)
1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex. No George at home on the night of the census (now found he had died in 1836 but she had married again by the 1841 Census - details now shown on chart above) This is a definite marriage, so why from 1851 to 1871 was she down as Jessie MUNNS
1851 55 Church Lane, Whitechapel, London as a widow. Living as Aunt with Samuel JOHNSON (38) Colour Maker born in Colchester, Essex, his wife Sarah (36) possibly born Wincester(?) The children listed are Jabez (12), Edward (9) and Sarah (7) CARELSON all Scholars born Whitechapel, Middlesex so are probably Sarah's children from a previous marriage.
1861 20 Portland Street, Stepney, Middlesex as a widow. At this address there was a Jessie Jean MUNRO age 68 born Edinburgh, Scotland, a  monthly nurse. Except for the surname the other details match those of Jessie MUNNS.
RG9/285 Folio 91 page 72. It was the home of P E KENDRICK (37) Trinity Pilot, his wife Sarah (35), children G E (10), Alfred (8), Sarah Ann (6) and Edward Rustheven (4) all Scholars, and James Thomas (1) all born Ratcliffe, Middlesex. Eliza Frances TYNEHAM (17) born St George in the East was a House Servant
1871 5 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex as a widow aged 79 so born about 1792 - age difference. Living with her widowed daughter Susan PERKINS and her daughter Emily. There were two lodgers, William MOSS (24) and John FOREMAN (25) both Steamship Stewards born Macclesfield Cheshire and Colchester, Essex respectively.
  3. 1838 68 Parston Street, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London (at marriage) Father John MELLY - Pianoforte Maker
By 1841 Jessie is putting herself down as Jessie MUNNS so what happened to this marriage)

1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
    1851 Census - Not found
  6. 1825 Aldgate High Street, London (baptism of Robert William)
IGI information. This is the only place I have found Robert at the present time, but parents given as George and Jessie and it ties up with other children's baptisms.
  7. 1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
1846 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex
1847 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Essex
1851 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping Middlesex. On this Census are the following:  Elizabeth GRAY, born about 1826, Dover, Kent, a Laundress Widow. Jessie GRAY, daughter aged 4, born Wapping, Middlesex (we had this information), Susan GRAY, born 1850, aged 5 months (this is new), Susan PERKINS, sister aged 19, married (thank goodness or she should have been called GRAY,  now found the marriage so it is Elizabeth's younger sister) and she was born in St George East, then there is William MUNNS, brother,  aged 16 a Cooper, and Henry MUNNS, brother,  aged 14 an Errand Boy, both born Wapping, Middlesex. There was also a Thomas SPARKS, a lodger, aged 25 born Padstow Cornwall, with the family.
1851 - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Griselda Susan
1861 Census - Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Elizabeth appears to have married again which is OK, but there is a daughter Pauline GRAY born about 1856 in Wapping, Middlesex, so we do not know the father of this child as Francis had died before the 1851 Census. There are two Head of Households, the first is a Dennis KEARNEY who is from Limerick Ireland and then there is James WHITEHOUSE, about about 1824 a Seaman MS?, born Staffordshire, then Elizabeth WHITEHOUSE, aged 34 a Laundress, born Dover, Kent, then Jessie P GRAY, aged 14 a Laundress, born Wapping, Middlesex and then as I have said Pauline GRAY, aged 5 also born Wapping, Middlesex.
1862 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex (baptism of Susan Emily WHITEHOUSE)
1871 Census - 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Elizabeth is again a widow on this Census. Aged 44 again down as being born in Dover, Kent, she is a Laundress, with her is Pauline O GRAY, aged 17 a Pupil Teacher, born Wapping, Middlesex and Susan E WHITEHOUSE, daughter aged 8 a Scholar, born Wapping, Middlesex
1881 Census - Laundry, Main Street, West Hallam, Derbyshire. It appears that Elizabeth has moved to Derbyshire, aged 54 a Laundress, born Dover, Kent, her daughter Susan E WHITEHOUSE, unmarried aged 18 a Laundress, born St John's Wapping, Middlesex
1891 Census - Portland Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Elizabeth is a Boarder with a Clare (Male) MORLEY a Cellarman at a Brewery, and his wife Jane. Elizabeth is again down as being born in Dover and is still a Laundress.
1901 Census - 112 Arthur Street, Derby, Derbyshire. Living with them is Elizabeth WHITEHOUSE, a Retired Laundress (Wash) born Dover, Kent.
  8. 1828 4 High street, Aldgate, London (baptism of Edward Thomas)
1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
  9. 1832 Betts Street, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London (baptism of Susan)
1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
1850 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex
1861 Census - I cannot find the PERKINS family on the 1861 Census. Ancestry.com has a family down as ROBSON, but I think this is the family with a George as head and an Emily the correct age as daughter and the mother as Mary, but when you look at the Census it is of extremely poor quality and it looks as though it definitely has a K in the surname, so I think this is the family, it looks as though George was a Stevedore, Emily is born in Wapping, Mary/(Susan) is born in St George in the East and that is where they are living, address, names birth place really not readable. If anyone wants to have a closer look it is on RG9; Piece: 280; Folio: 14; Page: 3
1871 Census - 5 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Susan PERKINS was head of household, with her was her daughter, Emily, aged 19 born Wapping, Middlesex, her grandmother Jessie MUNNS, aged 79 (born about 1792 so cannot see how it is her grandmother, perhaps Emily the daughter of Susan gave the details and was not sure of her Grandmothers age as she is about eight years older than we had, but this only came from 1841 Census which can be out as they rounded up and down the ages) She is down as being born in Scotland. There was also two lodgers with the family.
1881 5 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Lodging with her is a John FOREMAN
1891 5 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex
1901 6 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex
    1911 Not found
  10. 1833 Betts Street, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London (baptism of John)

1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
1851 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Living with his sister Elizabeth GRAY and her daughters, as well as Elizabeth's and William's married sister Susan PERKINS and their brother Henry MUNNS.
1856 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex
1861 ? Buildings, The Garrison, Department, Purfleet, West Thurrock, Essex
1871 Garrison Control Department, The Garrison, Purfleet, West Thurrock, Essex
1881 "The Garrison", Civil and Military, Purfleet, Grays, Essex
1891 Military and USD Buildings, Pufleet, Essex as widower
    1901 Not found
  12. 1836 Betts Street, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London (baptism of Henry Augustus)
1841 Harrods Place or Alley, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
1851 2 Harrods Place, Wapping, Middlesex. Living with his sister Elizabeth GRAY and her daughters. Living with them was the married sister of Elizabeth and Henry, Susan PERKINS, and their brother William MUNNS
1861 Not found (There is a criminal case in Essex in 1864 for a Henry Augustus MUNNS who could be this person. He was jailed for 10 years for Feloniously wounding with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

On these charts we have a couple of problems, first with Patrick MELLY who definitely married Jessie Jane but does not appear anywhere after that event, perhaps he just went to sea and disappeared and Jessie reverted to her previous married name. The same appears to have applied to the second husband of the daughter Elizabeth MUNNS. She married James Theodore WHITEHOUSE, again this was a definite as they are living in the same house as the MUNNS family at marriage, however he gets his Mate certificate in Liverpool weeks late and dies in Calcutta. His widowed mother at administration does not appear to know he was married and he is down as a Bachelor although we know he was married and had a child. So again perhaps he just went off to sea and never returned to his wife.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
