  1. Father John PEDLEY, Mother Rebecca EVANS
  2. 1851 Census - Hire? End, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
  3. 1851 Census - There was a George SMITH, Grandson, age 7 a Scholar, born ??? on the 1851 Census. living with his Grandfather and family
  4. Cannot find on 1851 or 1861 Census as KNOWLES
  5. I thought I should be able to find these families on later Censuses, but they all seem to have disappeared, however in 1860 in Ohio USA I have found a Joseph PEDLEY of the correct age born England and his wife Jane and on the same page there is a C PHILLIPS born England with a wife Jane, I think that it is too much of a coincidence not to be our families above. They are at Groton, Erie, Ohio, C PHILLIPS is 28  (1832 our 1826 above I think is only an estimate based on the age of Jane) a Farmer, born England, Jane is 29 (1831) born England and they have a son John, aged 4 born Ohio, USA. As they married in 1854 this could be correct. The PEDLEY family on the same page had Joseph PEDLEY, age 32 (1828) no occupation and Jane age 29 both born England. No children follow, the next entry is for a George BRAGG aged 13 born Ohio, so I do not know how the families are shown. The same happens after John PHILLIPS, the next person is a Mary BARBER aged 13. Details of Census so other people can find is; Image Source: Year: 1860; Census Place: Groton, Erie, Ohio; Roll: M653_958; Page: 305; Image: 609. I would think therefore that there is possibly more of the family in the US as I cannot find them on our Censuses. It is also possibly they went to Canada, Australia, etc. I just feel that these the two families mentioned  that the ages and couple and the fact they are living close to each other make it a distinct possibility that I have the correct couple, at present I cannot find on immigration or on later US Censuses.
  6. Obituary of Martha GREENSLADE née PEDLEY -Obituary "Obituary. Martha Greenslade was born in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England, March 3, 1818, died at her home two miles southwest of Castalia March 18, 1899, aged 81 years and 15 days. She, with her brother, Joseph Pedley, emigrated to the United States in the spring of 1855, and settled with her sister, Mrs. Boyce, near Parkerstown, Erie county, O. Before leaving England she sustained the loss of her mother, and her father also emigrated to this country in 1861 and lived with his son until 1885, when he died. Nov. 3, 1858, she was married to George Greenslade. One child, James, was born, who survives them. She was converted and joined the Methodist church in England at the age of 14, and has lived a faithful, consistent Christian life since that time. On coming to this country she united with the Methodist society at the Old Stone church and has lived with us a worthy member, although when the class was transferred to Castalia and the new Methodist Episcopal church built, she was unable to leave her home and attend services. She has been an invalid for 18 years, and for the last six years has been helplessly confined to her bed. Her great affliction she has endured with a patience which only those are able to bear who have been taught and perfected in the school of Christ. The end came gently, and like a weary child she folded her tired hands and sweetly fell asleep in the arms she had trusted, with a perfect confidence  that all is well. She leaves a son, two brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren to mourn their loss. The funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. John F. Strete, and her remains laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Castalia, O., followed by a large company of sympathizing friends." (Sandusky Daily Register, 23 Mar 1899, Page 6, Column 3) NOTE: The Obit contains some errors--date of birth, date of immigration, and date of father's death.
  7. 1880; Census Place: Groton, Erie, Ohio; Roll: T9_1012; Family History Film: 1255012; Page: 44.2000; Enumeration District: 112; Image: 0689. Thomas is with his son James on this Census and he is down as being 90 which would make him born in 1790. We originally had him on this Chart as born before 3rd May 1795, both contradict the information we have now received from a Sandra CRAWFORD.
  8. 1870; Census Place: York, Sandusky, Ohio; Roll: M593_1264; Page: 327; Image: 663. Had a son James aged 10 with them on this Census.
  9. Year: 1870; Census Place: Groton, Erie, Ohio; Roll: M593_1197; Page: 43; Image: 87.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
