Obituary of Violet Georgina HUMPHREY née POPLETT HUMPHREY, Violet Georgina - In her 96th year, Violet went to meet her Lord while surrounded by family on March 4th, 2015 at University Hospital. The wife of her beloved late husband, Arthur, Vi spent her formative years in Redhill England, emigrating with Arthur to Canada in 1953. Vi was one of eleven children. She is survived by her sisters, Phyllis and Eileen, and brothers-in-law, Derek and Graham. She will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic. Vi's family often relied on her to step in during times of life challenges to provide support and comfort. An avid gardener and traveler, Vi tended her home gardens with great zeal and provided sage advice to novices. She and Arthur saw much of North America on their annual car trips. A favorite was Niagara Falls where they maintained a vacation trailer home. Vi was best known as the "Candy Lady" at Kresge's in downtown London. "Don't I know you?", was a phrase that followed her for decades as customers remembered their sweet purchases and the red haired lady behind the counter.. Violet was a proud member of the Salvation Army and followed her beliefs as an integral part of her daily life. She will be missed. A memorial will be held at a future date.
