1861 Census - Henson, St Lawrence, Kent. I am not certain this is the right Martha PHILPOTT née SETTERFIELD, but cannot find Martha and James together on this Census and Martha was a widow in 1871. This Martha is two years younger than I would have expected but is down as a visitor, with a Richard and Jane PHILPOTT who are in there 80's. There are children for them who are 52 and 49 and then there is Martha, she is down as married and after her there are Elizabeth, aged 4 a Scholar and Edward aged 1. This ties up with a marriage in 1855. Martha is down as a Carpenters wife, so again this is possible. On the basis of the 1871 James was still alive at this time as they had more children after this date.
1871 Census - 2 Williams Cottages, St Lawrence, Kent. Martha was a widow on this Census, a Dressmaker, she had the following children, Jane, aged 7, a Scholar, Ellen, 5 a Scholar, and Henry, 3 a Scholar, all born St Lawrence, Kent

  12. 1851 Census - Cottage, Cliff End, St Lawrence, Kent. There were two servants a Thomas GRIGGS and a Thomas PHILPOT, but also there was a William GIBBS, aged 2, a grandson
1861 Census - Abbey Farm House, Minster, Kent. Henry was with a William FINCH a Farm Bailiff and was one of six Plough Servants
1871 Census - "Russell of Rochester" Mate on this boat which was in Suffolk waters on the night of the Census. There was also a James BEANEY who was the Master and a James CHITTENDEN, Able Seaman in the crew of five, both these names are family names, but James CHITTENDEN is down as from Ashford and James BEANEY from Friendsbury, Kent, neither therefore appear to be part of our family. (I think this is the right Henry but there are two on the BMD born in Thanet district. Only one comes up on each Census.
1881 Census - "Osiris" in Essex waters on night of census. He was down as Master. He is also down as being married on this Census.
  13. 1851 Census - Cottage, Cliff End, St Lawrence, Kent. There were two servants a Thomas GRIGGS and a Thomas PHILPOT, but also there was a William GIBBS, aged 2, a grandson
1861 Census - St Lawrence Street, St Lawrence, Ramsgate, Kent (Mary/Mercy SETTERFIELD was down as Mary)
    1876 St Lawrence, Ramsgate, Kent

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
