  1. 1861 Census - 55-56 Holborn, Holborn, Middlesex -  James was not at home on 1861 Census.
  2. 1871 Census - 55-56 Holborn, Holborn, Middlesex
  3. 1881 Census - 40 Citizen Rd, St Marys Islington, London
  4. 1881 Census - Penge Road Alexandra Terrace, 2, Croydon, Surrey. There was also a Charlotte SHELDRAKE, Granddaughter, aged 9 born CANADA with this family on this Census.
  5. I have found going through this Census that all the children are slowly picking up an H as there second name. We have Augustus down as Augustus HOLMES Sheldrake and I wonder if all the children had this as their second name and possibly this was the maiden name of their mother. I have since been through the BMD and found most of the children and proved the HOLMES theory, although I cannot find the marriage or the births of John or Robert I would think that is now most likely that they all had HOLMES as the second name and also Charlotte's maiden name was HOLMES. I then did a search for just Holmes Sheldrake on the BMD and came up with the ones I have, but also an Edgar Holmes Sheldrake born March Quarter 1862 in Holborn, I searched the Deaths but no Edgar Holmes Sheldrake appears. but I would think it is a child of the same family so have added with a query above. Does not appear on the 1871 or 1881 Census.
  6. 1881 Census -44 Stockwell Pk Rd, Lambeth, London
  7. 1891 Census 0 14 Mountfield Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. There was also a Lodger and a Servant, but no children.
  8. There is a marriage on the BMD of a Sarah Holmes Sheldrake in September 1893 in Plomesgate, Suffolk to either a William Henry PRESTON or an Alexander ROSE, but I cannot find anything on the 1901 Census to confirm that this is our Sarah Holmes SHELDRAKE, whereas in the case of Charlotte Holmes I have been able to prove by birth date and place that I have the correct person. I have therefore not entered any details above.
  9. 1891 Census - James H SHELDRAKE is living at 7 Dunford Road, Islington, he is down as married, aged 38 a Manager of Match Merchant, born in Islington, but he has no wife or children with him.
  10. 1901 Census - 20 Youge Pk, Islington, Middlesex, Amelia is with him on this Census, but there are still no children.
  11. 1901 Census - 20 Grove Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. There are six other people in the house other than Josiah and Charlotte, one is a Servant but the others are visitors. Two born India, one born Ireland, one born Lancashire, and born Upper Norwood, Surrey. Will not list full details.
  12. 1891 Census - I have found James SHELDRAKE and Charlotte back in Suffolk on this Census at Hill Farm, Earl Soham, Suffolk. Certain right family as ages and birth places correct as George and Sarah are with them. This would make the marriage of Sarah in 1893 on Note 8 a distinct possibility. I had discounted it as I thought is would be in London. There is also a Charlotte SHELDRAKE, Granddaughter aged 19 down as born in AMERICA, so would think it is the same child who appeared in Note 4 as born in CANADA
  13. 1901 Census - Bridge Street, Framlingham, Suffolk. - The farm did not last long, but this is a most interesting Census return. The family is very varied on this Census and proves that Sarah married William Henry PRESTON as noted in Note 8. Most of the details have been put in the Chart above under Note 13, but also still with the family was Charlotte H SHELDRAKE (with an H as her second name so again could be a HOLMES) born Canada, aged 29, down as a Visitor on this Census and also there was a George SHELDRAKE, down as a Great Granddaughter, but I would think it should be Great Grandson, who was aged 4 and born in Islington, London. If this was a main area of research for me which it is not I would have found the amount of information on this Census unbelievable.
  14. 1881 Census - 1 Tresco Road, Camberwell Surrey
  1. 1871 Census - 55-56 Holborn, Holborn, Middlesex
1881 Census - Penge Road Alexandra Terrace, 2, Croydon, Surrey. There was also a Charlotte SHELDRAKE, Granddaughter, aged 9 born CANADA with this family on this Census.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
