    1881 9 Eden Road, Norwood, Lambeth, London. The family was with a George RANGER aged 58 a Blacksmith, born Merton, Surrey and his wife Elizabeth aged 58 born Farnham, Surrey and son George Thomas aged 33 a Smith born Kingston, Surrey. Then there is a Lodger a Widow aged 48 a Dressmaker born Sudbury Suffolk an sons George Ambrose JONES aged 18 born Lower ???, Surrey and John Henry JONES aged 17 also born Lower ???, Surrey, then an Ada HARWOOD aged 9 born Woodford?, Kent and a James HARWOOOD a Lodger aged 7 born Woodford, Kent. Then there is the SIMMONS family.
    1890-1902 Army Medical Corps. Edward had on his Army Pension Record a long list of court marshalls all for minor offences, ie returning from leave 1 hour late, disappearing for an 1 hour, serving up cold food etc, penalty mainly was being confined to barracks for between 2 and 7 days. Next of Kin first given as Mother, Matilda SIMMONS, 29 Gideon Road, Clapham, London and then wife Fanny added.

    1901 Not found, not with his wife. He was serving in South Afirca from 3rd January 1900 to 10th November 1901, This was his only overseas engagement, he served at Home from 26th November 1888 to 2nd January 1900 and then on his return from South Aftica is shown as serving just three more days from 11th November 1901 to 14th November 1901. These are dates given on military history, the fact that he appears to have managed to travel and return from South Africa in a day is a mystery, but would think it was when he embarked and disembarked in England.
