  1. 1871 Census - High Street, Romney, Kent
1881 Census - Blackborn Cottage, Snave, Kent
1891 Census - Dymchurch Road, Hythe, Kent.
  2. 1871 Census - No 82 Saltwood, Kent
1881 Census - Redbrook House, Saltwood, Kent
1891 Census - Dymchurch Road, Hythe, Kent.
  3. 1891 Census - Dymchurch Road, Hythe, Kent.
1901 Census - Beechlands, Hythe, Kent. A birth date is given for Alan in Canada in the 1914-1918 war however on this Census he is down as being two so would have been born in 1899, the date in 1915 would have meant that he was only 16 so it is possible he added a couple of years to his age to be able to get into the Army. Some of the names are difficult to read, I have gone from the BMD and think I have the correct ones, Winnie is the most difficult, I think she was Alice Winifred (her mother was an Alice, so quite likely she was called by her second name, but it looks like Kinnie, and could be Minnie etc). Queenie looks like Elweanie, but again I think it is Queenie. I have looked at the Army form again and found that there is a hand written paragraph down the side which shows a change of age from 1897 to 1899 which would explain what appeared on this form and what I found on the English BMD. Appears to have come to light when the actual Birth Certificate was shown.
1913 Pelhams Corner, Fonthill, Welland County, Ontario, Canada (at marriage)
1921 Thorold Township, Welland, Ontario, Canada
From the Canadian Soldier of WWI I have found a brother of Lillian STICKELLS, he is down as Alan STICKELLS, born 11th May 1897, Hythe, Kent, England, mother Alice STICKELLS (is down as next of kin, so assume Lillian and Alan's father John had died by this time, which was the 13th December 1915. Alan's civilian occupation is down as Iron Worker. The address is Pelhams Corner, Fonthill, Welland County, Ontario, Canada. He was joining the 98th Overseas Battalion
On the death certificate of Lilian STEMP née STICKELLS it says that she had been on the country 17 years, this takes us back to 1913 which was the year that Lilian and William marriage, her sister had married just three weeks earlier so it appears that they had only just arrived in Canada. With the Witnesses on the marriages, the marriages and the Canadian War record return it appears that all of the family, parents and children went to Canada. I have a gap at the present time between the 1901 English Census and the marriage in 1913 in Canada where we have no record of the family. This should change when the 1911 English Census becomes available. I have just found that Lilian STICKELLS and William Charles STEMP came to Canada via Maine and arrived in Portland, Maine from Southampton on 1st April 1913, were the rest of the family already in Canada by this time. They were in Fonthill Welland County Ontario, Canada four months later and two of Lilian siblings were witnesses, but only Lilian and William were on the passenger list of the "Ausonia"
  4. 1901 Census - Beechlands, Hythe, Kent. A birth date is given for Alan in Canada in the 1914-1918 war however on this Census he is down as being two so would have been born in 1899, the date in 1915 would have meant that he was only 16 so it is possible he added a couple of years to his age to be able to get into the Army. Appears to have come to light when the actual Birth Certificate was shown.
Marriage details for Queenie now found on Ancestry.com.  It shows full details. It appears they married in a Methodist Church, but Daniel is down as a Catholic and Queen as an Anglican. Daniel's address at marriage is Copper Cliff, Ontario, His father is down as James KELLY and his mother as Martha MULLEN. Queenie's address at marriage is 285 King Street West, The witnesses are shown above but they both gave there address at 74 Grange Avenue. The parents of Queenis are down correctly at John STICKELLS and Alice MOWLL, but again we have a variant of the name MOWL.
  5. 1901 Census - Beechlands, Hythe, Kent. A birth date is given for Alan in Canada in the 1914-1918 war however on this Census he is down as being two so would have been born in 1899, the date in 1915 would have meant that he was only 16 so it is possible he added a couple of years to his age to be able to get into the Army. 7. 1901 Census - Beechlands, Hythe, Kent. Marriage details for Adela now found on Ancestry.com.  It shows full details. Father of Horace was a James F McLANNON his wife is down as Bernie COCHRANE. Parent of Adela are down correctly as John STICKELLS and Alice MOWL. The witness Alice address was Welland and Robert was Toronto. I do not have a Robert so it is possible that he was born after the 1901 Census, or he was the John Robert born in 1895.
  8. 1901 Census - Beechlands, Hythe, Kent. A birth date is given for Alan in Canada in the 1914-1918 war however on this Census he is down as being two so would have been born in 1899, the date in 1915 would have meant that he was only 16 so it is possible he added a couple of years to his age to be able to get into the Army. The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
