Involving the custody of a beautiful girl of seven years, the happiness of three homes, including that of a former husband, the home of the man in the case, the abused husband and other minor entanglements, the arrest early Sunday morning of William Noble and Mrs. Sadie C Terry in a room as 1312 Cadwell St., Monday gave the police department, municipal court and the circuit court all those departments of justice had time for. While the city hall corridors down stairs were crowded with friends of all parties, many of them in tears, Circuit Judge Collingwood on the third floor was signing a decree of divorce granted to Harry C Terry from his erring wife.
    Married One Year
Scarcely a year ago Harry C Terry who had just come to Lansing from an eastern city, married Mrs. Sadie C. Hannah who had been divorced years before from J. E. Hannah, an honest mechanic. Terry had saved the money earned at the Prudden Wheel Co. and was able to secure a new home which he furnished comfortable from cellar to garret. Eighteen days later, according to Terry, he brought home his first pay check and his bride of less than three weeks left with it.
Terry loved his bride as dearly as man can love woman and began a long search for her which after a year culminated in the arrests Sunday morning. Wearying of his search. Terry a few months ago began suit for divorce, which was granted on the grounds of adultery. In the meantime the search for the missing woman had not be stopped.
Walter Eul, private detective who have been previously engaged, re that Noble and Mrs. Terry had registered at a hotel in Mecosta as man and wife. Undiplomatic, Noble had used his own name and Lansing as his residence. The detective followed the pair to a nearby lake summer resort. Here he found Noble and Mrs. Terry living in a tent and enjoying life. With them was Vera Sophia Hannah, the beautiful child of seven born to Mrs. Terry when she was J. F. Hannah's wife. The child as happy as the illicitly loving couple, called Noble "Papa".
    Eul Follows Pair
When t he couple suddenly left of Lansing, Detective Eul followed. At the Pere Marquette depot the couple went in different directions, Noble to his home, Mrs. Terry and the child to the room on Cadwell St. This was last Saturday. Sunday morning Chief Behrendt, Captain Shattuck, Patrolman Col and Detectives Rowell and Eul entered the room finding both couples but partially dressed, and the arrest followed.
After leaving the Pere Marquette train Noble went to his home at 1209 North Case st. North Lansing and asked his wife if she had enough money to care for her and her four children for two days. Although Mrs. Noble had not, she replied in the affirmative as she had been instructed to do by the detectives. Noble then left and was shadowed.

....appeared at police headquarters this morning and asked to talk with his erring wife. Matron Godfrey brought Mrs. Terry, neatly dressed to the ante-room off Chief Behrendt's office where Terry was waiting. It was a dramatic moment. Her husband attempted to speak, but choked, The wife partially arose and then sank back in her chair supporting her face with her hand gave way to repentant tears. For a few minutes both sobbed violently and police officer and attorney turned away. There was no use of denials - Mrs. Terry had been caught red-handed and she admitted between sobs which could be heard through the building, all the sin and disgrace of the last year.
    Terry Meets Hannah
Unable to control his grief TERRY stepped into the hall where he met J E HANNAH who had divorced Mrs. Terry years before
    "Hello Jack." Terry sobbed
"Cheer up old pal." replied Hannah.
Then an agreement concerning the custody of pretty little Vera was reached. Both men loved the child, as did the sobbing mother who had just left the prison cell. However both men, hard working mechanics did not believe that the mother should have the custody of the child and a tentative agreement was reached. Because he loved her Terry was to be guardian and Vera will inherit his savings at death. Hannah, his little home as 812 East Kalamazoo St. already but caring for three little ones hadn't much room. But there was an easier way. Mrs. Leonard Levington 521 Lenawee as a sister of Hannah was chosen as guardian, where little Vera will find a good home and the protection which she had not known within the past year, unless the court intervene.
As to Noble the prosecutor has been confronted with evidence as damning that a penitentiary sentence seems inevitable. There's Mrs. Noble who claims that she had not been properly supported. there is Harry Terry, whose home has been broken and will require years to recover from the shock and then there's little Vera. All of these stories the prosecuting attorney heard in the lobby of the city hall this morning. Noble is still in jail and stoically awaits his trial.

His love still intact for the woman whom he married a year ago , Terry....

....appeared at police headquarters this morning and asked to talk with his erring wife.

  32. 1891 Hillman, Montmorency County, Michigan USA (birth and death)
Because there are a lot of records for Michigan I have found lots and lots of marriages, divorces, burials etc for this chart but it has slowly become impossible to put on all the marriages found as I have just found that Floyd BUTCHER married for a third time to a Theresa DEERING and I have entered details of that marriage above, but Theresa, his new wife,  had been married 5 times before this marriage to Floyd and I just do not have the space above to add details for those marriages so details of those marriage have been added below.
There was a marriage for Theresa DEERING on 6th October 1894 at Hantville Easton, Michigan USA to a Charles ESTEP (no parents names given)
There was a Marriage of a Theresa ESTEP (DEERING) on 5th August 1899 Menominee, Menominee County, Michigan, USA to an Atel OLSEN (parents names James DEERING and Katie BURKE)
There was a marriage for Theresa DEERING on 6th January 1908 at Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA to a M Harry DAVIDSON (parents James DEERING and Kate BURKE)
There was a Marriage of a Theresa DAVIDSON (DEERING) on 22nd September 1910 Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA to a Martin LODER (parents Jas. DEERING and Kate BURKE)
There was a Marriage of a Theresa M LODER (DEERING) on 13th February 1917 Muskegon, Michigan, USA to a Frank SANDRO (parents James DEERING and ?therine BURKE
The marriage we have above for Theresa DEERING on 8th January 1929 North Park, Kent, Michigan, USA to Floyd BUTCHER (parents James DEERING and Catherine BURKE)
So have found all five previous marriages
Continuing for the above John Edward HANNAH also married again after his marriage to Sadie M CONNELLY and his new wife remarried after his death, because of the number of marriages on the chart above I cannot get any more details on the chart so the information for the second marriage of John Edward HANNAH and details of his wife are as follows:
John E HANNAH born about 1876 and aged 35 married on 27th May 1911 at Easton Rapids, Ingham Michigan, USA to a Ruby E DYKE. His parents are down as John HANNAH and Eliz. HANNAH, Ruby's parents are down as Wm W DYKE and Flora DYKE
There is marriage for a child of this couple in Michigan.
Ruby down as aged 29 married again on 20th October 1919 in Charlotte, Easton, Michigan USA to a Marshal H COLE (her parents down as Will DYKE and Flora DYKE. Her new husband is down as aged 29 and parent Bert COLE and Retta Belle COLE
Ruby E COLE (maiden name DYKE) Aged 37 (parents William DYKE and Flora DOLLARD) married yet again on 30th June 1928 in Lansing, Michigan to a Carl M LIENTZ he is down as aged 40 and born in Vevay, Indiana with parents LIENTZ and Mary Lee
Ruby Estell LIENTZ (aged 45) (parents William DYKE and Flora May POLLARD) married again 30th May 1936 aged 45 in Oil City, Midland, Michigan, USA (residence place Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, USA to a Claude C COCHRAN he was aged 61 and born in West Virginia and parents given was Winfield S COCHRAN and mother Margaret SLAVENS
Ruby appears to have died in 1945 as the Rev. Ruby Estell COCHRAN  Her gravestone say Mother Rev Ruby E COCHRAN 1890-1945. she was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, USA.
So Ruby appears to have married four times

A lot of the other people at the top of the chart either married again or had been married when they married as shown. For instance Andrew ROBERTSON I believe had been married before and married again. So as already said it is impossible to put all the details for everyone on this chart. Our interest is really only in Henry C TERRY and his marriages. There are also more children that could be added for the couples who married but as far as we can tell Henry C TERRY. the person we are interested in had no children, so as the chart has grown I have stopped putting in all the children.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
