Family History, Whineray Chart 0605 John Whineray, Lucy Buckingham, Rachel ??? and ??? Hesketh

With the family was an Eleanor JACKSON aged 18 a House Servant born Kirby, Lancashire, a James GARNETT aged 20 a Farm servant born Thwaite, Cumberland and a Thomas TURNER aged 19 a Farm Servant born Lowick, Lancashire. 1861 Railway Tavern, Harrow, Middlesex. John was a boarder at the Railway Tavern, with a William H DUNKELY a Licensed Victualler and Turner and his family. There was another boarder and two servants with the family. 1871 48 Tawen? Road, Great Boughton, Chester, Cheshire. (down as Whineran, not Whineray but certain correct person) 1881 Queen Street, Watford, Hertfordshire. 1891 1 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (office of John) 1891 2 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (family address) 1901 5 Grinfield Terrace, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. John is down as married but I have an idea the his wife Lucy had died between 1891 and 1901 as there is no wife with him, but a daughter Ethel I aged 20 born Watford, Hertfordshire, Hugh aged 15 born Watford, Hertfordshire but then there is a William S HESKETH down as Step Son aged 16 a Railway Clerk, born Liverpool, Lancashire. The last entry is the reason for thinking that John has married again to a ?? HESKETH. From this there is a marriage in West Derby district, Lancashire in September quarter 1897 of a John WHINERAY to a Rachel HESKETH which I think confirms my thinking. Then there is a death of a Lucy WHINERAY born in 1844 and died in June quarter 1896 in West Derby district, Lancashire, which I think put the final confirmation to my thinking. 1911 9 Wellesley Road Liscard Cheshire. His daughter Ethel single born in 1882 a Housekeeper born Watford, Hertfordshire is with him. 1921 Death information taken from a post on Roots Web, I was looking for John on the 1911 Census and had not found him. With her was a daughter a Rachel HESKETH aged 32 Single a Waitress born St Helens, Lancashire Then with her was a William HESKETH aged 6 (1885) born Liverpool, Lancashire. William ties up with the information we have for William on the 1911 so it is possible that Rachel was not married when she had William. I cannot find on the 1901 Census. ) 1871 48 Tawen? They had a child Rachel F WHINERAY born Norton, Derbyshire. 1911 31 Poplar Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Her daughter Rachel F was still with her but down as being born in Sheffield, Derbyshire. Rachel M is a widow. With them was a Fanny HULBERT sister single aged 35 a Children's Nurse born Birmingham, Warwickshire. There daughter was born as Rachel Frances WHINERAY in June quarter 1896 in Ecclesall Bierlow, Derbyshire. 1871 48 Tawen? Road, Great Boughton, Chester, Cheshire. I think this is the correct Mary although she is down as being born in Ulverston, whereas on previous Censuses she is down as being born in Chester where she is on this Census. Her birth is correct date is correct, she is single and down as Mary M so it does point to her being the correct person. With her is a Catherine COWIN, Single a General Servant Domestic born Birkenhead, Cheashire. 1871 48 Tawen? Road, Great Boughton, Chester, Cheshire. There was a C. H WHINERAY with the 5th Dragoon Guards who was South Africa in 1899-1902 and was given a South African Medal (Clasp) in 1901 and 1902, who I believe to the this Charles Henry WHINERAY (which would explain why I cannot find him on the 1901 Census) 1905 I have found Charles Hy WHINERAY in 1905 still working for the Railway, so this possibly casts doubt on my find in 1911. (source UK Railway Employment Records) 1911 6 Buxton Place, Ulverston, Lancashire. I think Charles H is at this address. He puts his age down as 33 whereas he should be 38 and birth place as Manchester, Lancashire but Eccles where he was born is in that area. He is in Ulverston which would be the correct place and I have been researching the WHINERAY's and at present he is the only Charles H we have. He was living with a Lena Alice HARRISON down as a Boarder a Widow aged 33 occupation Apartments born Ulverston, Lancashire, with her was her daughter Laura aged 13 an Evening Classes Student born Ulverston, Lancashire and Thomas HARRISON aged 14 a Poulterer Assistant born Ulverston, Lancashire. There were three other boarders with the family. 1881 Queen Street, Watford, Hertfordshire. 1891 2 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (family address) 1901 Waterhead Hotel, Coninston, Lancashire. Eleanor was a Bookkeeper with a Joe TYSON aged 45 a Hotel Proprietor born Ambleside, Westmoreland and his wife Tanier? aged 46 born Ulvertson, Lancashire. There were ten servants with the family. 1911 8 Wllesley Road, Liscard, Cheshire. Eleanor's husband was not with her but she is down as married with occupation as Husband at Sea. There was a Harrier E CLAKE aged 25 a Nurse Domestic born Barrow-in-Furness with the family. 1881 Queen Street, Watford, Hertfordshire. 1891 2 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (family address) 1901 Twynholan Hall?, 116 Baymont Road, Lillie Road, Fulham, London. Sydney was a Boarder with a George Robert MULLETT aged 39 and his family 1911 98 Vicarage Road, Watford, Hertfordshire. There was a Mabel HORLAND aged 16 a Domestic Servant General born Watford, Hertfordshire 1881 Queen Street, Watford, Hertfordshire. 1891 2 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (family address) 1901 5 Grinfield Terrace, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. 1911 9 Wellesley Road Liscard Cheshire. With her father as Housekeeper on this Census. There was a Frances E GROVES born September quarter 1917 in Birkenhead district, Cheshire with WHINERAY as the mothers maiden name who I believe to be a child of this family. 1891 2 Bridgemere Road, Walsall Foreign, Walsall, Staffordshire (family address) 1901 5 Grinfield Terrace, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire. The marriage details are taken from a post on Roots Chat and is only put in in case anyone can give us further details. I thank the person who put this information on. A further post on Roots Chat states the following for children of this couple; John William born 2 Nov 1907 (December quarter 1907) in Birkenhead Eleanor Ethel born September quarter 1909 in Birkenhead. (It is possible that Eleanor E WHINERAY married a William L BURTON in West Derby district in March quarter 1931.) I am led to believe that Sarah and Hugh did not stay together and she married again in 1914. On the 1914 there is a marriage in West Derby district, Lancashire of a Sarah WHINERAY to a Richard J CLARK. I can find no further information for Hugh after the information given. On the UK Incoming Passenger Lists there is a Hugh WHINNERY (sic) who is down as being born in 1886 who arrived on 24th March 1924 in Liverpool from New York who gives his permanent address in Dublin, Ireland who just could be this person. (There are various birth etc of Hugh WHINNERY in Ireland but none of these tie up with a birth around 1885) On the marriage that someone found for Hugh which at that time I had not, he is down as Hugh Casson WHINGHAY but I agree as with the Casson as the middle name this must be this person. 1901 5 Grinfield Terrace, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire.
