Allchin, 96, of Thermal, CA, passed away at home in his sleep, on August 16, 2008 in Thermal, CA. John was born in Springfield, IL, on June 4, 1912, to David and Annie Bain Allchin. He attended Pasadena Junior College. On June 28, 1936, John married his soul mate, Vivian Cliff, in Pasadena, CA, his wife of 63 years; she preceded him in death in March of 1998, as well as a brother David Allchin years before. John is survived by his very special friend, Lilian Brihagen, now of Seattle, WA; a daughter, Jean Allchin (Nikki); a son, Tom Allchin (Darlene) all of Thermal; a sister, Phyllis Davis of Glendale, CA; 3 grandchildren, John (Kelly) Allchin of San Luis Obispo, CA, Kathy (Jeff) Hubbard of Thermal, Guy (Shelly) Allchin of La Quinta, CA; 5 great Grandchildren, 4 nieces and 3 nephews. In the 1930's he worked on the Racing Teal Ranch in Oasis, CA. Their daughter Jean was delivered by Dr. Clair S. Johnson. They later moved to Gardena, CA, where he worked for Douglas Aircraft and their son was born. After the war he went into business as Skyhaven, welding/making Jigs for Douglas, and swing and slide sets. He was also an Aluminum welder. In 1955 they came to the desert and bought a Grape Vineyard and he still welded, built trailers and was pretty much a "Jack of All Trades." They sold the Vineyard and retired to the "new" Galloping Goose Ranch in Thermal in the early 80's where he kept busy in his shop, planting some dates and running around the Ranch in his cart, taking care of Mom and making his canes. John's wife Vivian had an aneurysm and was bedridden and he himself lovingly took very good care of her for over 12 years. He was active in the Coachella Valley Rotary Club, a 56 year life member of the Indio Elks Lodge #1643, and a member of the Coachella Valley Historical Society. He loved his family and he loved life and lived it to the fullest. A memorial service will be held at the Indio Elks Lodge on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 46-301 Madison Avenue, Indio, CA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the horse club, Coachella Valley Vaqueros, P.O. Box 242, Indio, CA 92202 or to a charity of your choice in memory of John. She was born Oct 30 1915 in Padadena. She married John William ALLCHIN on June 28 1936 in Pasadena. Mrs. ALLCHIN was an accountant of 17 years. She was active member and past presdient of Mission Valley Southern California Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Coachella Valley Historical Society, and was on of the original five students who started Oasis Elementary School. Survivors inlcuded her husband, a duaghter, Jean of Thermal, a son Tom of India, three grandchilder, and two great- grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at FitzHenry Funeral Home in India. The family suggest donations be made to Church of Christ, 45-745 Deglet Noo, Inio.
