CHILDS
  1. 1841 Census - Sandhills, Hambledon, Surrey. William's wife Mary is shown as being 20 on this Census, but she could be older as ages were rounded up or down on this Census. William is down as being 25, John is correct at 6, so if Mary was 20 she would have only been 14 when she had John. The was a John EARL aged 70 and a Thomas EARL aged 20 with the family. The IGI shows a marriage on 9th November 1834 of a Mary EARL to a William BOXALL, so I think this is the correct marriage and that John EARL was her father and Thomas a brother.
1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon Village, Surrey. Hannah is down as Anne on this Census.
1891 Census - Village Hambledon, Surrey
IGI - an entry by a member of the LDS Church states George BOXALL (just like that -no Strudwick as second name shown) was born in 1848 in Hambledon, Surrey. They have put his parents down as William BOXALL and Caroline STRUDWICK. I would think therefore that this is referring to our George above.
On Andy Brown's Family Tree on Ancestry.com the parents of William are shown as William born about 1783 Hascombe, Surrey died 13th September 1847 Hambledon, Surrey and Jane AYLING born about 1789 Godalming, Surrey and died about 1830 Hambledon, Surrey. Other than William it shows seven other children
  2. 1841 Census - Sandhills, Hambledon, Surrey.
IGI baptism. I think this is the correct one, as the father is given as John, and this makes Mary three to four years older than shown on the 1841 Census. The mothers names is given as Charity. There are four other children when searching on the Batch Number one of them is Thomas as shown in Note 9, so certain correct family. They are as follows:
James EARL baptised 21st April 1811 Hambledon, Surrey
Elizabeth EARL baptised 13th July 1812 Hambledon, Surrey
William EARLE  baptised 13th February 1814 Hambledon, Surrey
Thomas EARL baptised 20th February 1820 Hambledon, Surrey
Andy BROWN has written again and confirms that is was Mary EARL that married William BOXALL
  3. 1841 Census - Hambledon Village, Hambledon, Surrey. Caroline was 17  and living next door to three BOXALL families. She was not with her family but no relationships are given and she has no occupation, she is with a James HUTCHENS and family.
1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon Village, Surrey. Hannah is down as Anne on this Census.
1891 Census - Village Hambledon, Surrey
1901 Census - Hambledon district Workhouse, Hambledon, Surrey
IGI that Caroline was baptised 27th June 1824 in Hambledon, with just her mother shown as Elizabeth and the name down as STREEDWICK.
  4. 1841 Census - Sandhills, Hambledon, Surrey.
    1851 Census -  Village, Hambledon
IGI Baptism. Having found the baptisms for William and Caroline, I looked for Baptisms of William and Mary, there is one for John as shown, it is quite close to the marriage of William and Mary. No baptism come up for William and Henry, BUT there are the following and there are gaps for them between John and William so there could be additional children, David BOXALL baptised, 9th October 1836, Edward BOXALL baptised 11th September 1842. Neither of these children show up on the 1841 and 1851 for David or the 1851 for Edward, but both could have died.  They do not show up on the BMD.
  5. 1851 Census -  Village, Hambledon
1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
  6. 1851 Census -  Village, Hambledon
1861 Census - Henfield Common, Frensham, Surrey, a boarder with a James BARTON and his wife Lucy.
1871 Census - Farncombe Road, Godalming, Surrey
1881 Census - Somers Road, Godalming, Surrey
  7. 1851 Census -  Village, Hambledon
1871 Census - Black Beam Cottage, Chiddingfold, Surrey. Parents of Charlotte, as she was not born, but Mercy the eldest daughter was with them, she was aged 1 and born in Chiddingfold, Surrey. George was 23 and an Ag Lab, and Ann was also 23 both born in Chiddingfold, Surrey. (IGI baptism for Mercy was on 20th February 1870.
1881 Census - Great House Cottage, Hambledon, Surrey. Father - George aged 33 born Hambledon, Surrey, a Farm Labourer, Mother - Ann aged 33 born Hambledon, Surrey. Four other siblings other as well as Charlotte. There was also a Henry LAWRENCE, aged 12 a Lodger aged 12, a Farm Labourer.
1891 Census - Great House Cottage, Hambledon, Surrey.
1901 Census - New Barn, St Catherines, Arlington, Surrey. There is a James as a son on this Census, I did not have a James but there was a William J born in 1884 which ties up with the age of 17 given on this Census. I therefore feel that William J is the person in question. There was also a James GRAVETT a Boarder and Widower aged 70 a Carter on Farm born Rudgwick, Surrey with the family.
Marriage date for George Strudwick BOXALL and Mary Ann HOARE found on an Ancestry.com World Tree site. I cannot find on the BMD.
  8. 1851 Census -  Village, Hambledon
1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Lebouren Cottage, Weybridge, Surrey. (There is a slight doubt about James as there are two born around 1850 in Hambledon that come up. I think this is the right one, but I might be wrong.) This one James married Lucy (cannot find marriage on the BMD) and had Emily E aged 9 Scholar born Aldershot, Hampshire, Alfred L aged 7 born Aldershot, Hampshire, Minnie M. A. aged 5 born Guildford, Surrey, Edith F aged 3 born Weybridge, Surrey, James 1 born Weybridge, Surrey. The other one might be the one as on the 1881 Census he is a Woodcutter and Agricultural Labourer living at Cricket Ground, Hambledon, Surrey.  They have a Ann Elizabeth SMITHERS down as a daughter in law (I think therefore Step Daughter-now looking at the actual Census and not the index she is down as wife's daughter) as she is only 8 and born in Wandsworth, Surrey. I  would think his wife Ann had been married before. Will not add a chart unless I can confirm which one is the correct one.
    IGI Baptism
The tree by Andy BROWN on Ancestry.com shows the marriage of James to Ann Mary SMITHERS. Having spent the day on this I think that this is the correct marriage. I am going to amend the Chart above to show this but leave in Note 28 showing an alternative marriage, just in case
  9. 1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon Village, Surrey. On the same page as the main family there is an Elizabeth ELLIOTT who is 28 and is married to a John ELLIOTT, the first child is down as Elizabeth BOXALL, wife's daughter, so I believe that Elizabeth above married John but had Elizabeth before marriage. The daughter Elizabeth BOXALL was 9 and born in Hambledon and was a Scholar. Then there is Eliza ELLIOTT aged 6, William ELLIOTT aged 4 both Scholars, and then Emily 3, John 1 and Charley 3 weeks, all down as infants and everyone born in Hambledon, Surrey.
1891 Census - Van Lane, Godalming, Surrey. It appears that Elizabeth had married again, all the children are listed as ELLIOTT  are down as Stepchildren to Henry which they would have been. There are a lot more than appeared on the 1881 Census, I would think that John had only recently died. Children William 14 an Ag Lab, John 11, Charles 10, Alfred 7, James 6, all Scholars, Elias 4 and Leonard 3, all children to this point born in Hambledon, then there is Fanny 2 born in Godalming, Surrey
1901 Census - Vann Lane, Godalming, Surrey. Children (all Elliott children down as Stepchildren) John ELLIOTT, 21 Carman (Coal) born Hambledon, Surrey, Charlie 20 Carter on Farm born Hambledon, Surrey, Alfred 17 Cowman on Farm born Hambledon, Surrey, James 16 Cart boy of Farm, born Hambledon, Surrey, Elias 15 Carter boy on Farm, born Hambledon, Surrey, Leonard 14 Carter boy on Farm, born Hambledon, Surrey, Fanny 12 born Godalming, Surrey, then there is Kate HOLT 9 born Godalming, Surrey and Lizzie HOLT 7 born Godalming, Surrey. (on the Census Lizzie is before Kate). Also there is ten years between Henry and Elizabeth on the 1891 but only three on this one, Elizabeth is down as being born in 1850 and Henry in 1853. I wonder why this was, it is definitely the correct family but suddenly Henry is 13 years older than he was on the 1891 Census and Elizabeth has added three years onto the age that had been put down for her since the 1861 Census.
The BMD marriage for Elizabeth and John in 1873 which I believe to be the correct one shows John as John Elliott VINCENT. The Vincent does not show on the 1881 Census, and the name is John ELLIOTT but I believe this is the correct marriage.
    IGI Baptism
  10. 1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Wood End, Godalming, Surrey. Charlotte is a servant to a William BURTON, a Landscape Artist, born in India aged 42 and his family.
1881 Census - Huntmore? Cottage, a servant to a Joseph W PEWTREE and family. he was 67 and born in Hackney, London, he was a retired Paper.........?
1891 Census - 125 Oval Road, Croydon, Surrey. Although Charlotte is down as being born in Godalming, not Hambledon, I am certain correct family as there is an Emily ELLIOTT, niece, aged 13 a Scholar born Godalming, Surrey with them. She was a daughter of Charlotte's older sister Elizabeth. There was also a lodger a Mary HURST aged 83 a widow born Dover, Kent, so possibly related to Charles. The children were Charles William, 10? months (it has been altered)  born Godalming, Surrey and Caroline B 5 weeks born Croydon, Surrey
1901 Census - Pittocks Down, Worth, Kent, Charlotte is down correctly this time as being born in Hambledon, children: Chas W 11 born Godalming, Surrey, Caroline B 10 born Croydon, Surrey, Fred T 7 born Croydon, Surrey and Winifred aged 3 born Sandwich, Kent.
    IGI Baptism
  11. 1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon Village, Surrey. Hannah is down as Anne on this Census.
1891 Census - Culmer Mullards Row, Godalming, Surrey. Children: Arthur 2 born Culmer and James 1 born Culmer.
1901 Census - Mullards Cottage, Witley, Surrey. Children: Arthur , 13 Witley, Newspaper Boy, James, 12, Witley, Charles 7 Witley, Frederick 3, Witley, all Surrey.
    IGI Baptism
  12. 1861 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - 73 Union Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire. A servant to a Fanny GIMLETT, aged 25 with No Occupation and born in Doniford, Somerset.
1891 Census - Culmer Mullards Row, Godalming, Surrey. I had a small doubt about Emily marrying Charles but when I looked at the actual 1891 Census I found that Emily and Charles were living next door to Charles BOXALL on the Chart above, so I am 100 per cent certain that it is correct. Children, all born Hambledon, Katie 6 Scholar, Albert 3 and Emmeline 1
1901 Census - Run Farm, Wonersh, Surrey. Children: Albert 13 born Hambledon, Emmeline, 11, Ernest, 10, Rosie, 4 and May Alice 3 all born Culmer, Surrey.
    IGI Baptism
  13. 1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon Village, Surrey. Hannah is down as Anne on this Census.
1891 Census - Village, Hambledon, Surrey. I am certain this is correct, and that George BOOKHAM married Annie as shown above and that she died before the 1891 Census. They are all living close to each other William and Caroline BOXALL, David and Ellen BOXALL, George BOOKHAM (a widower) and his two children, Annie 7 a Scholar born Hambledon and Frank 4 a Scholar born Chichester, Sussex and I would think the parents of George BOOKHAM, George aged 72 and his wife Charlotte, aged 69.
  14. 1871 Census - Sandhole, Hambledon, Surrey
1881 Census - "Stoughton Barracks" Stoughton Stoke, Guildford. I am certain that this is the correct David, although in 1881 he would have been only 16 and he is shown as 18 there are no soldiers younger than this so I would think he gave his age as 18 to get in. He was back in the Army in the 1901 which is the reason I think we have the correct David here.
1891 Census - Village Hambledon, Surrey - next door to William and Caroline. Had a daughter Elizabeth, aged 6 months born Hambledon, Surrey.
1901 Census - District First Home Counties Reserve Regiment and Fifth Royal Irish, Aldershot Military in Stanhope and Wellington Lines,  Hampshire - Children: All born Hambledon, Elizabeth 10, William 8, Caroline 5, Charles 4.
I have found on an Ancestry.com World Tree the following two children born after 1901 for David BOXALL: David BOXALL b: 1902 in Farnham, Surrey
Harry BOXALL b: 1/4/1904 in Farnham, Surrey
    IGI Baptism

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
