We have not been able to find any of the family in census returns, birth or marriage registrations. So….no links to William and Esther, was George their son? How can we find out? Have not found him on 1891, 1901, 1911 census, or his birth, death or marriage! Did he exist? I have been unable to find a birth registration for "Bert", nor details on the 1891 or 1901 census using criteria such as "BUTLER" "born 1890 +/-2" "father "William". However, on the 1911 census, living with the family, there is a Herbert age 18. But confusion still reigns! No children So as he is on a census with them he must be a child of William and Henry…..but was he Herbert Arthur? Can’t be Herbert Edwin as he was someone else’s son….but where did Herbert Arthur disappear to? You will see the query above….no Francis William on the 1901 census…appears on the 1911 so where was he in 1901? Can’t hope to find a death without some idea of where they lived. Same with children. I tried Patrick as being a not too common name…there are dozens of them…and the dates I have are approximate so nothing to go on there. So….proven children who appear on a census with parents 1. Herbert, 2, Edward, 3, John, 4, Francis William/Walter F, 5. William, 6. Elizabeth, 7. Alice and 8. Bert. Leaves George b 1891 and Arthur F born about 1902 as uncertainties Whilst George and Edward being the two who died – except I have a wife for George!
