    1921 Golden Wedding Celebration
    The Golden Wedding celebration of Mr. David Chatfield and his wife, Mrs. Ellen Chatfield was held at the Holmethorpe Mission Room, Redhill, Surrey, on Saturday, April 9th 1921 (Note: they married on 8th April so celebration took place a day later, this was a Saturday) , which was kindly lent for the occasion. They were married on the second day of April 1871, and have been living in the neighbourhood of Redhill nearly all their married life. Mr. David Chatfield (who was born at Chipstead, Surrey, and is in his 74th years is the eldest son to the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Chatfield of Eastbourne, Sussex. He took a great interest in local cricket, and was for some years Captain of the Holmethorpe Cricket Club).  Others  who took part in the happy gathering were five sons, all of whom had seen service in the great war. They were Mr. Frederick Chatfield and wife; Mr. William Chatfield and wife; Mr. David Chatfield and wife; Mr. Richard Chatfield and wife, as well as their two daughters, Ellen Chatfield and Esther Chatfield.
    Mrs. Chatfield, who is 71 years of ages, was unfortunately through sudden illness, unable to be with her family, which somewhat marred the happiness of the party. Mr. John Chatfield, of Eastbourne (brother) was present and offered apologies for his brothers, Richard, Charles and Allan Chatfield, who could not possibly attend. Others present included twenty-four grand-children, eight great grand-children. Miss O. Chatfield (niece), and Mr. W. Stribling, Mrs. T Bignell, Mrs W. Capporth, Mrs. A Stone, and Mrs. G Monk (friends).

    THE LATE MR. D CHATFIELD
    Mr. David Chatfield, of Frenches-road, passed away on March 12th aged 90 years. He was the eldest son of Richard Chatfield, of Eastbourne, and was born at Chipstead, and had lived practically all his life in the neighbourhood of Redhill. A keen cricketer he was for many years Captain of Holmethorpe Cricket Club. For 10 years was employed on the Gatton Estate and for 40 years in the employ of the late Mr. Richard Trower at Holmethorpe. Some years ago he and Mrs. Chatfield, who survives him, celebrated their diamond wedding and on this occasion they were recipients of a telegram of congratulation from the King and Queen. The funeral took place on Thursday of last week, the internment in Redstone Cemetery being preceded by a service in Holy Trinity Church, both services begin taken by the Rev. S. A. Guest. The mourners were Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Harwood (daughters), Mr. F Chatfield and Mr. David Chatfield (sons), Mr. and Mrs. W Chatfield, Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur Chatfield, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chatfield and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Chatfield (Sons and daughters-in-law), Mrs. Stone, Mrs. Peters, Miss Alice Chatfield, Miss Eva Chatfield, Mrs. Mackenzie, Mrs. Razzel and Mrs., Boorer (granddaughters). Taylor and family. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. J Stoneman and Son, Ltd., of Redhill and Reigate.
