The above is the best I can do to transcribe the Casualty form it is in places difficult to decipher, there are a lot of initials used and a lot of "ditto" which in most cases I have spelt out. However as can be seen he spent a lot of time in Hospital having been Gassed and suffering from Bronchitus etc. It can also be seen that he was indeed in Dartford, presumably at the Orchard Hospital at the time of his marriage to Ethel TERRY.

    Newspaper Obituary
    Mr. J. A. Condick
Mr. James Andrew (Frank) Condick, a highly-esteemed member of a well-known family who have resided in Tongala and Kyabram districts for more than 50 years, passed away on Friday at the Tongala B.N.A. Hospital.
Deceased, who was 67 years of age, was born at Beaufort, his parents being the late William and Agnes Condick. He was a member of the 38th Battalion 3rd Division salvage Company, and served the the First World War. His marriage with Miss Ethel Terry was solemnised at Dartford, Kent, England. For a number of years he had resided at Tongala, but due to war service disabilities he was unable to carry out his occupation as a brickmaker. As a young man he was keenly interested in athletic pursuits. He was a splendid boxer, foot runner, and followed football with enthusiasm.
The funeral took place on Saturday to the Tongala cemetery. Prior to the lengthy cortege leaving the Presbyterian Church, an impressive service was conducted by the Rev. R. G. Mitchell, who also officiated at the graveside.
    Coffin-bearers were Messrs. T. Newton, K. Wood, M. Miller, F. Charlton, R. Wenn, J. Purdey. Fall-bearers: Messrs. J. Simpson, F. Trevskis, T. Tinning, N. Gemmill, W. Whitfield, A. Trinning.
A special R.S.L. service was also conducted at the graveside.
The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held by members of the community.

A message received 9th February 2006 from Donald KNIGHT, (see KNIGHT Chart 0200) regarding Ethel TERRY. The complete emails is as follows:
    Hello John
I have a at last found some information relating to my Great Aunt Ethel. She married, details as on your website, James Andrew Condick born 1885 at Beaufort Victoria Australia. he died in 1953 at Tongala Victoria. He was in Europe as a soldier in World War 1 prior to which he was brick maker at Kyambram Victoria. His father was William Condick.
They had two daughters - Betty born about 1920, Joan about 1923 both married and had children but no other details at present. James & Ethel also had a son James William Condick born abt 1921 at Kyabram Victoria and was an orchard worker. He was then Lance Bombardier in the Australian Army No VX53514 and at age 24 died in Brunei on 10 June 1945. I do not know cause of death whether it was enemy action, prisoner of war or whatever. Rather sad - just a few weeks before the war ended in the Far East..
I do not as yet have anything further on Ethel herself.
I will let you know more if I get further info from my contact in Australia.

    Service Number: VX53514
    Campaign Medals:
    War Medal 1939-1945
As with most Armed Forces Serving Personal during the conflict of World War Two, James William CONDICK was entitled to the War Medal 1939-1945. This medal was awarded to all full time service personnel who had completed 28 days service between 3rd September 1939 and the 2nd September 1945. Eligible personnel who had been “Mentioned In Despatches” during the War were entitled to wear a bronze oak leaf emblem on the ribbon. Those eligible for a campaign star, yet who had their service cut short by death, wounds or capture by the enemy, still qualified for this medal.
    1939-45 Star
Given the information available to us it is likely that James William CONDICK was awarded the 1939-45 Star for operational Service in the Second World War between 3rd September 1939, and 2nd September 1945.
James William CONDICK would have been awarded this star if their service period was terminated by their death or disability due to service. Also the award of a gallantry medal or “Mention In Despatches” also produced the award of this medal, regardless of their service duration.
Fighter Aircraft Crew who took part in the Battle of Britain (10 July to 31 October 1940) were awarded the "Battle of Britain" bar to this medal. In undress uniform, a silver-gilt rosette was worn on the medal ribbon to denote the award of this clasp.
    Service: Australian Army
    Regiment: Royal Australian Artillery
Royal Australian Artillery during World War 2
    Formed: 1901
The Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery, normally referred to as the Royal Australian Artillery (RAA), is descended from the original colonial artillery units prior to Australia’s federation. Australia’s first guns were landed from HMS Sirius and a small earthen redoubt built, near the present day Macquarie Place, to command the approaches to Sydney Cove. The deployment of these guns represents the origins of artillery in Australia. These and subsequent defences, as well as field guns, were operated by marines and the soldiers of infantry regiments stationed in Australia. The first Royal Artillery unit arrived in Australia in 1856 and began a succession of gunner units which ended with the withdrawal of the imperial forces in 1870 resulting in the raising of ’A’ Field Battery, NSW Artillery in 1871. The First World War saw the raising of 60 field, 20 howitzer and two siege batteries along with the heavy and medium trench mortar batteries. Until 19 September 1962 the Australian Artillery was referred to as the ’Royal Australian Artillery’, however on this date HM Queen Elizabeth II granted the RAA the title of the ’Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery’.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
