    1. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
Last Will and Testament of Daniel Dackombe[t] of Spring Cottage, George St, Walworth, Surrey, gentleman. To my wife Mary Ann Dackombe, the leasehold house where I live with furniture and effects during her life. She may not sell or mortgage same. After her death to be sold and divided equally between my children. Rest and residue to my wife, appointed sole executor. Witnessed by Aquila Richard Dackombe, Robert Dackombe 16th December 1843 Proved 24th February 1844.
Daniel was the last in the line to own land. He disposed of it around 1850. The Dackombe family owned land not only in Ashtead, but in Beckenham, Kent, Denbighshire and other parts of the country. This disposal of the land at Ashtead was the last of their holdings. The full text about this can be found through this Section of the relevant section of this Web Site.
    2. 1804 Deptford, Kent (baptism) Parents of Mary Ann ROOK were a Thomas and Susannah, he was a Shoemaker
1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861 Census - Spring Cottage, George Street, Walworth, Surrey
1871 Census - 6 North Road, St Peter Walworth, St Mary Newington, Surrey.  There was a Jane DACKOMBE granddaughter, aged 4 born Walworth, Surrey with the family.
1881 Census - Mary was living with her son John and Family at  14 Nursery Row, Newington, Surrey
A Barry Dackombe found me this information which related to Mary - Palmers Index to the Times: Date: Tuesday April 23, 1872 Heading NEXT OF KIN - PERSON WANTED Summary: Dackombe, Mary Ann Ref: Page1, column b Mary Ann Dackombe, widow of Daniel Dackombe (late of Bromley & George-street, Walworth) and daughter of Thomas Rook, America - The GENTLEMEN who have been making inquiries for this lady, will oblige by COMMUNICATING with C. E. Weldon, 9 St George's-villas, Tufnell-park-road, Holloway
    3. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1851 Census - 31 Trafalgar Street,  St Peter, Walworth, Newington, Surrey.  There is an Eliza on this Census aged one, she is down as being born in City, London. This could be Arabella above, but as will be seen one Census says she was born in Jersey, another in Walworth, and if this is the same Arabella Susanna Eliza it also means she was born in the City. I have not added another child at present, will try and find a birth certificate. The page can be found at HO107/1567 Folio 515, page 37
1855 - In a Post Office Directory for Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex dated 1855 I have found an Aquila DACKOMBLE, Beer Retailer, at Bromley Common, Kent. As two of his children were born in the Bromley area and Aquila was a Beer Seller around that time I assume it is this Aquila.
1861 Census - 1 Listock Place, St Peter's, Walworth, Surrey
Informant of death was Susan Edermaniger of 7 George Street, Walworth, Surrey, who was his sister.
Aquila is shown in the parish records as being baptised both at St Peter, Newington, as shown and also at St Mary, Newington, both on the same day. Also, in both cases the baptism is shown as a girl. However, because of subsequent events, census, marriage etc I believe this was wrongly recorded because of the unusual name and the fact that Aquila has also been used as a girls name
    4. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861 Census - Spring Cottage, George Street, Walworth, Surrey
    5. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1845 Lambeth, London, (baptism of Arabella Maria)
1846 Eltham Street, Walworth, Surrey (address at death of Mary Anne)
1850 Guildford Street, Walworth, London (baptism of Ellen Sarah)
1851 Clandon Street, Walworth, Newington, Surrey.
1861 5 Frederick Place, Newington, Surrey.
1871 71 Darwin Street, Kent Road, Southwark. This possibly is correct family Head is down as Henry ATCHERLEY aged 46 a Engineer in Factory born Walworth, London, his wife appears as Angelina but I suspect this is really Arabella she is the correct aged 44 and birth place is correct. The problem is they are shown with two children William Aged 20 a Warehouseman and Henry aged 12 a Factory Boy both born Walworth, London. If this is correct these two children have not appeared with their mother on previous Censuses but Henry was also not with his wife so it is possible that these two children also belong to this family. At present I cannot find them on any other census.
1881 19 Nursery Row, Newington, Surrey. Arabella is down as a Lodger, a widow with an Alfred T BUCKINGHAM Head married aged 34 a Plaster born Westminster, London and his wife Louisa Aged 31 born Westminster, London and their children Thomas A 11 a Scholar, born Lambeth, Henry G aged 6 a Scholar born Lambeth, Albert born 4 born Lambeth, London and Arthur aged 1 born Walworth, London.
1901 26 Pitman street, Camberwell, Surrey. Arabella is down as Bella but I do think correct person she is down as a Widow and also down as an Aunty. The family she is with is a Joseph DEACON? aged 31 a Stationers? Bookkeeper? born Lambeth, London, his wife Emma aged 31 born Lambeth, London and children Emily aged 10 born Lambeth, London, John aged 8 born Newington, London, Lily aged 1 born Camberwell, London and Joseph aged 3 born Camberwell, London (have put down in order as they appear on Census, sometime when they say 3 or something like for the last child and they are not in order it could mean months not years)
    6. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
    7.
    8. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861 Census - Spring Cottage, George Street, Walworth, Surrey
1881 Census  - 6 Webber Street, Southwark, London
It took some time to find this family on the 1881 Surname Index. Finally I found them under EDEMANING, but then looking at the actual Census return they appear as EDERMANING and I assume as the enumerator did not have enough space for the ER on the end he did not put it in. Walter as the head was spelt WALTON and his wife Susanna was spelt SOUSANNAH. However because of the ages and the names given I am certain that this is the correct family. It has therefore given us a lot more information on this family.
1891 Census -52 Webber Street, Southwark, London
1901 Census - 58 Webber Street, London Road, St George the Martyr, Southwark, London. Again it has taken me a long time to find this family on the 1901 census. Ancestry.com has them down as MONIGAN, the Census looks like MANIGER, but I am certain it is correct. There names, ages and birth places tie up and they are still in Webber Street.
    9. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861  8 Townley Place, St Peters, Walworth Surrey (RG9/343)
      1871 Townley Street, St Peter's, Newington, Surrey  (RG10/620 Folio 130 Page 33)
1881 14 Nursery Row, Newington, Surrey. John's mother Mary Ann DACKOMBE was with the family.
      on electors register
8 Missionary Place and 14 Orb Street and as given for children’s birth places (Will find year)
1891 13 Guildford Road, Camberwell, Surrey. There was a Florence ARNOLD, Granddaughter aged 4 born Walworth, London with the family.
      1901 11 Guildford Place, Walworth
1911 412 Albany Road, Camberwell, London
    10. 1841 Census - George Street, St Mary, Newington, Surrey
1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861 Census - Spring Cottage, George Street, Walworth, Surrey
1871 Census - 5 Cottage Lane, St Luke, Old Street, Middlesex
    11. 1851 Census - Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent
1861 Census - Spring Cottage, George Street, Walworth, Surrey
1863 Trafalgar Street, Walworth (new addition, 9th November 2009) shows father as Daniel DACKOMBE Gentleman and his wife's father as Richard Lloyd Engineer. His wife's address was George Street and Father at Richard Lloyd - Engineer. Another good addition as  this finds details for another child for one of the main families I am researching.
  • The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
