1851 Cranley Common, Cranley, Surrey. Benjamin DURBRIDGE, was a Visitor (Grandchild) with Henry STEMP aged 55 an Ag Lab born Cranley, Surrey and his wife Mercy aged 48 born Dunsfold, Surrey and children William aged 26 a Miller born Cranley, Surrey, James aged 16 an Ag Labourer born Cranley, Surrey, Elisa aged 14 born Cranley, Surrey, Emma aged 11 born Cranley, Surrey and Hellen aged 8 born Cranley, Surrey.
1861 Cranley Common, Cranley, Surrey. Living as son-in-law, together with brother James, with Mother's second husband, William LONGLEY who is shown as unmarried
1871 Rye, Cranley, Surrey. Benjamin was a servant to a Charles STEDMAN aged 69 a Landowner Farmer of 117 acres employing 13 men and 2 boys born Wonersh, Surrey and his wife Maria aged 65 Farmers wife born Witley, Surrey and son Henry aged 25 born Wonersh, Surrey. There were two other servants a Charlotte M SHEPPERD aged 16 a General Servant (Domestic) born Cranley, Surrey and a George CARPENTER aged 20 a Shepherd born Cranley, Surrey.
1880 Reigate, Surrey (at marriage) (Age discrepancy ie was born in 1848 but on marriage the age given makes him born in 1854, but because father is a Job  I feel it is possibly the correct person)
1881 Nutley Lane, North Albert Road, Reigate, Surrey
1888 London Lane, Reigate, Surrey (baptism of Benjamin George)
1891 6 London Road, Reigate, Surrey. There was a Frederick KILLICK a lodger aged 70 a General Labourer born Reigate, Surrey with the family.
1901 16 Worcester Road, Reigate, Surrey. With the family was a George KNOWLES a Lodger aged 23 a Bricklayer Labourer born Reigate, Surrey.
1911 16 Worcester Road, Reigate, Surrey. With the family was a George KNOWLES a Lodger aged 33 a Labourer born Reigate, Surrey.
    Notes
Confusion about birth information for Benjamin.
However, having found that brother James also shows different birth years. I have therefore entered the information for Benjamin but left the following to show the problems. If you have other information please contact me.
There was a Benjamin DURBRIDGE born about 1820, but there were only 2 early Benjamin DURBRIDGE births registered, one in 1848 the other in 1887.
In 1871, two Benjamin DURBRIDGE's are listed, the one born 1820 and one born 1850 which is this Benjamin actually born 1848
In 1881, one Benjamin DURBRIDGE is listed, born 1854, married to Fanny and living in Reigate, Surrey (born Lockwood, Sussex)
In 1891, two Benjamin DURBRIDGE's are listed, father and son born 1855 (born Loxwood, Sussex) and 1887. Was the 1855 Benjamin the one born 1848? If not, where did the one born 1855 come from? There was no 1855 birth and he was not on previous census returns.
In 1901, two Benjamin DURBRIDGE's are listed, father and son born 1856 (born Foxwood (not Loxwood), Sussex) and 1888.
In 1911, Father and son (living in Reigate) are shown as born 1855 and 1888 respectively, father this time born just in "Sussex" (Not found using name Benjamin, used Fanny his wife)
If this is "our" Benjamin, as Benjamin senior's wife Fanny SPARKS was also shown as born 1855 perhaps Benjamin made himself younger because of the age of his wife. I would have happily accepted the different birth dates, but then added to that is the change in place of birth. However, he was born 1848, his father died in 1851, his mother remarried in 1857 and then she died in 1859 when Benjamin and his twin brother were about 10/11 years old. They were living with their step-father in 1861 but he died in 1891. Perhaps they had lost contact by the 1881 census, or perhaps the step-father did not know where the boys were born and so for some reason it was decided that Lockwood/Loxwood/Foxwood was their birth place. Help needed!
There was a death in the Reigate district, Surrey September quarter 1926 for a Benjamin DURBRIDGE age 80 making a birth year of 1846
  2. 1854 Bramley, Surrey (at baptism) Father James a Labourer, Mother Eliza
1861 Goose Green, Bramley, Surrey. Father James CANNON aged 53 an Ag Lab born Branley, Surrey. Mother Eliza aged 39 born Bramley, Surrey, Children all born Bramley, Surrey Emma aged 19, William 17 an Ag Lab, John aged 12 a Farmers Boy, Charles 11 a Farmers Boy, Henry 9 a Scholar and then Fanny. (cannot read address both words appear to start with a G)
1871 Cranleigh, Surrey (marriage) Father James CANNON - Labourer
1880 Reigate, Surrey (at marriage) Father James CHANNON - Farm Labourer. Note she is down as Fanny SPARKS a Spinster but her father is down a James CHANNON, I cannot see how this can be given the age she gives at marriage. (I believe she was indeed married before as now shown above, perhaps her first husband had not died and she said she was single so she could marry in the church, hence the reason for being in Reigate as they would not have  been known, or perhaps they found that James SPARKES had been married before  and his first wife was still alive so the marriage became void allowing her to be married in the church.
1881 Nutley Lane, North Albert Road, Reigate, Surrey
1888 London Lane, Reigate, Surrey (baptism of Benjamin George)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
