    Dorothy F. Friend, 78, of Waite Court, a former teacher, died Friday at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of the Rev. Harold J. Friend.
    Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Lewis A. and Florence H. (Brownson) Shippee, she lived in North Kingstown since 1942.
    Mrs. Friend taught in the North Kingstown, Cranston, Warwick and Mendon, N.J., school systems before retiring in 1972. She graduated in 1939 from Boston University and received a master's degree from Columbia University. She attended Colby College and Brown University. She was a member of the Society of Mary, where she was a past secretary-treasurer of the Rhode Island Ward, and a New England representative of its national council.
    She was a member of the Guild of All Souls and was secretary-treasurer of the Rhode Island Ward. She was a member of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrement, the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham of Norfolk, England, a former secretary-treasurer of the Church of the Epiphany Women, a member of the B.E. Dewers Class of the First Baptist Church of Wickford, a member of Pettaquamscutt Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Martha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the Washington County Retired Teachers Association, the Sigma Kappa Sorority and the North Kingstown Senior Association.
    Mrs. Friend was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wickford, and attended the Church of the Epiphany and the St. Augustine American Episcopal Church, Providence.
    She is survived by a daughter.

    FLORENCE E. FRIEND, 50, of Waite Court, Wickford, a certified nursing assistant for Nursing Placement and Community Care Nurses, died Tuesday at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick.
    Born in North Kingstown, a daughter of the late Rev. Harold J. and Dorothy F. (Shippee) Friend, she was a lifelong resident.
    She was a graduate of Rhode Island Junior College and Transylvania College, Lexington, Ky.
    She was a member of Pettaquamscutt Chapter, DAR, the Society of Mary, Martha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the West Bay Rainbow Alumnae, Daughters of the British Empire and the Cocumscussoc Association.
    She was a life member of South County Museum and a member of the St. Matthias Anglican Church, Mystic, Conn.
    She is survived by three cousins.
