  1. 1841 Census - Kingswell Street, All Saints, Northampton, Northamptonshire ( I would think living with his wife's family)
1851 Census - Ashford Road, Maidstone, Kent. this is very strange as his wife is a Rebecca born 1821 Maidstone, Kent, which matches the information on the 1871 exactly but it definitely says on the 1861 Census that Nehemiah is a widower, but this does not appear to be the case. I am going to make Rebecca his first wife and Sarah his second and removed the ? for his first wife as the 1861 Census was the first one I found. Children on this Census are Eliza 9 and William 7 both born Northampton, and both scholars, there is a John YORK as a lodger and then there is a George HANCOCK a nephew aged 22 born Northampton, and a Hair Dresser. So this must be the George HANCOCK who married Elizabeth STEDMAN and was not Nehemiah nephew but his brother. So even more confusing. George born 1830 so he would be around 22 on the 1851 Census was a Barber in Northfleet, by 1854. There appears to be to many similarities not to be the same person.
1861 Census - 15 Bear Lane, Christchurch, Southwark, Surrey, Nehemiah was a widower aged 42 and born in Northampton. with him was Elizah, aged 18, Housekeeper, born Northampton, Northamptonshire and William 17 an Iron Moulder, born Northampton, Northamptonshire.
1871 Census - 13 Spring Gardens, Kettering Northamptonshire. Nehemiah was a lodger and it appears that he had moved back from London to Northamptonshire and that he had married again to a Rebecca.
1881 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire. It would appear that Nehemiah had married yet again. With him was a son a Henry Griffith HANCOCK aged 29 No occupation, born Litchfield, Staffordshire. There were four lodgers with the household.
IGI birth submitted by a member of the IGI church
The IGI shows a marriage by a member of the LDS Church which suggests the Nehemiah married a third time, it would have been his first. There is also a birth date which matches the above exactly, so I am fairly certain it is correct.
On the IGI submitted by a member of the LDS Church there is a Nehemiah Henry Hancock, born 5 June 1840 Northampton, Northampton and baptised 22nd November 1840 Northampton, Northamptonshire, and died in 1845 in Maidstone, Kent. with Maria DUNKLEY as the mother, so this all ties up nicely, however I cannot find a Nehemiah and Maria HANCOCK with a son Nehemiah on the 1841 Census
  2. 1841 Census - Kingswell Street, All Saints, Northampton, Northamptonshire. Also in the same household, William DUNKLEY, aged 65 Labourer, Serby? DUNKLEY 15 Lace Maker (female) and William DUNKLEY aged 10, the Census is very feint so a job to read,
  3. 1851 Census - Ashford Road, Maidstone, Kent.
Death from BMD as this is the only one that comes up in Northants and I think she died between 1871 and 1881, however it shows her age as 70 which would be completely wrong but I think this is a mistake on the index.
IGI Baptism, parents William and Mary BEECHER
  4. 1851 Census - Rotten Row, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire There were two boarders with the family
1871 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.
1881 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.
I cannot find Sarah on the 1891 Census - There is a death of a Sarah Smith HANCOCK in the June quarter of 1882 in Northampton district, Northamptonshire, but she is down as being born in 1815 (died aged 67) so she is about seven years older than I have on the Censuses, but it could be the correct one. Also the name Smith as her second name is new and could be either a clue to her maiden name, her first married name, or possibly to her birth name, none of which I have found.
  5. 1851 Census - Rotten Row, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire There were two boarders with the family
  6. 1841 Census - Kingswell Street, All Saints, Northampton, Northamptonshire
    IGI baptism
  7. 1851 Census - Ashford Road, Maidstone, Kent.
1861 Census - Cow Lane, Northampton All Saints, Northampton, Northamptonshire (only possible, there is an Eliza with the mother of Nehemiah who is down as 14 and a Granddaughter but she is down as 14 so born 1847, I have a baptism in 1842 so it is likely that this Eliza is a daughter of one of the other male siblings on HANCOCK Chart 0501.
    IGI baptism
  8. 1851 Census - Ashford Road, Maidstone, Kent.
1861 Census - 15 Bear Lane, Christchurch, Southwark, Surrey,
  9. 1851 Census - Rotten Row, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
    IGI baptism
  10. 1851 Census - Rotten Row, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
IGI Baptism. There are two baptisms on the IGI for Louisa one at the Cathedral and one at St Michaels, with William and Sarah as parents, was this the same Louisa or was there two, the other children were definitely baptised as St Michaels.
  11. 1851 Census - Rotten Row, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
    IGI Baptism
  12. 1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1871 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.
1881 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire. Down as Henry Griffith HANCOCK, after Sarah had remarried to Nehemiah HANCOCK
    IGI Baptism
  13. 1861 Census - Deans Croft, St Michael, Lichfield, Staffordshire
1871 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.
    IGI Baptism
  14. IGI Baptism and death, does not appear on a Census
  15. 1871 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.
    IGI Baptism
  16. 1871 Census - 12 Angel Street, Northampton, Northamptonshire.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
