  1. 1851 Census - Carr Street, Ipswich, St. Margaret, Ipswich, Suffolk
  2. Birth dates taken from the IGI, Ebenezer is down as Christened as is Robert, then Elizabeth has a birth and Christening date, but William and Thomas have a birth date. However they are all down whether a Christening or a Birth as Diary Lane Baptist, Ipswich, Suffolk, so they all might be Christenings. The IGI also gave me the maiden name of Elizabeth and also Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire which is not clear on the 1851 Census.
  3. 1861 Census - I have found a John Rolph HANCOCK living in Colchester, Essex, but born in Ipswich on the 1861 Census. The 1851 Census does not show this child, but as the IGI says the parent married in 1817 and the second name is ROLPH, the maiden name of the mother I think this is a child of this family. He was married with a large family. He was also a Confectioner and Fruiterer which was an occupation throughout the family. They were living at East Street, Colchester, Essex. Children as follows: (all born Ipswich, Suffolk) Caroline Eliza, age 16, an Assistant (I assume to her fathers Confection and Fruit business) John Daniel, age 15, also an Assistant, Elizabeth A, age 14, Scholar, Charles W, age 11, Scholar, Thomas William, age 8, Scholar, Fanny, age 7, Scholar, Kate, age 5, Scholar, Laura, age 1 (I notice now that Laura was born in Colchester, Essex. There was also a Visitor and a Servant in the household.
  4. Father possibly Benjamin HANCOCK (IGI) of Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire. Mother Hannah ???
  5. Found this by accident on the IGI, it would fit in as a birth here and it is for a Charles. The father is down as being Charles and the mothers surname is given as RALPH, so fairly certain it is correct, however the mothers Christian name is given as Frances. His name is given as Charles Hancock HANCOCK. Again I wonder if this is correct.
  6. James is the only other child on the IGI who was down as the Dairy Lane, Baptist. As he fits between William and Thomas I believe he is another child for this family. He does not appear on the 1851 Census. He also does not come up as a death on the IGI.
  7. 1871 Census - I have found a Thomas HANCOCK born 1838 in Ipswich living at Tombland, Norwich, Norfolk details for Thomas and his wife have been added above, as I think this is the right marriage although the occupation is very different for Thomas, but the rest of the family have similar jobs. They have a son John H HANCOCK, age 6 born Norwich Norfolk, and there is a Sarah Ann ROOT, a niece, living with them who is 12 and born in Ipswich, Suffolk. There are two servants an Ann M LEE age 22, a Domestic Servant born Helhoughton? Norfolk, and a Elisa Payne, age 16 a Domestic Servant, born Salthouse, Norfolk, there is also a Sarah HALLET sister-in-law unmarried so giving as the maiden name of Albertina above. Sarah is 22 and born Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire.
  8. 1871 Census - from the Sarah Ann ROOT staying in Norwich as a niece on Note 7 above I looked for a ROOT family in Ipswich, it could only be a Susannah or an Elizabeth who married a ROOT, nothing comes up, but there is a Susan so this is a possibility which for the present I have added above. She is born in the right year for our Susannah. They are living at 20 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich and William her husband  is a Plumber employing 13 men and 5 boys, and born in Ipswich, Suffolk.
  9. 1861 Census - I then went to the 1861 Census for a Susan Root and found that there was a daughter a Sarah A ROOT (Ancestry.com says it is a K for the second initial but looking at it it is an A, of the correct age for our Sarah in Note 7 above. They are living at the same address as the 1871 Census - 20 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, Suffolk. William is a Plumber (there is an &C after the plumber) and born in Ipswich, they have a family so will have to add a Chart. The children on this Census are Fanny M ROOT, aged 7 a Scholar, born Ipswich, Suffolk, William ROOT aged 5 born Ipswich Suffolk, and Sarah A ROOT, aged 2 born Ipswich, Suffolk, there is also a Servant, an Anne WRIGHT, aged 16 born Peasenhall, Suffolk.
  10. 1881 Census - 24 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich St Peter, Suffolk - just William and Susan, William down as a Plumber.
  11. 1891 Census - 24 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, Suffolk. Again just the two, William and Susan, William is down as Plumber and House Decorator.
  12. Cannot find William and Susan on the 1901 Census.
  13. 1871 Census - 23 Navarre Road, Ipswich, Suffolk. If Charles is indeed part of this family, (see Note 5) I have found him on the 1871 Census and will make a Chart for his family. Detail for Charles and his wife appear on Chart above. His family is Clara E HANCOCK, age 11 a Scholar, born Ipswich, Suffolk, Walter E HANCOCK, age 9 a Scholar, born Ipswich, Sufflok, and Eliza HANCOCK, age 2, born Ipswich, Suffolk.
  14. 1881 Census - 19 Hervey St, Ipswich St Margaret, Suffolk. Details for children on this Census as follows: Clara Elizabeth HANCOCK age 21 Saleswoman, born Ipswich, Suffolk, Walter Edwin HANCOCK, age 19, Postman, born Ipswich, Suffolk, W. E. T. HANCOCK, age 9, Scholar, born Ipswich, Chas. I. T. HANCOCK, age 6 Scholar, born Ipswich, Suffolk, Arthur HANCOCK, age 3 born Ipswich, Suffolk, with them was Clark TURNER, father-in-law, age 67 a Widower, a Gentleman born Ipswich Suffolk. There was also a George SOAR, aged 14, an Errand Boy also born Ipswich, Suffolk and down as a Boarder.
  15. 1891 Census - 107 Harvey Street, Ipswich, Suffolk - There are still two children at home Charles HANCOCK is now 16 and a Grocers Assistant and Arthur HANCOCK is 14 and a Tailor's Apprentice. There is two Grandchildren with the family, a Florence REEVE, age 9 a Scholar born Ipswich, Suffolk and a John REEVE age 5 (possibly it is a 6) a Scholar, born Ipswich, Suffolk. There are two other people with them one a Tailor Employer and one a Tailor Apprentice.
  16. 1901 Census - Charles is still alive and living with the REEVE family, (see Note 15). The address is High Street, Barking, Needham Market, Suffolk. A John REEVE is the Head of household, age 41, a Shoemaker, born Ipswich, Suffolk, his wife is Clara (who we have above as a daughter of Charles so will have to do a Chart for this family when I get to putting all the information on a separate chart) she is 41 and born in Ipswich, Suffolk, the children on this Census are: Florence, age 16 born Ipswich, Suffolk, John 14, born Ipswich, Suffolk and Jessie age 10 born Needham Market, Suffolk, then there is Charles HANCOCK, age 79 a widower born Ipswich Suffolk and Arthur HANCOCK age 23, brother-in-law, a Shoe and Boot Maker, born Ipswich, Suffolk.
  17. 1861 Census - 10 Carr Street, (House and Shop) Ipswich, Suffolk. Found the family as HANDCOCK, but definitely the correct family. As well as the family shown with the note number above there was a Sarah POTTER visitor, age 53 born Debenham, Suffolk, and a John WRIGHT, age 29 a Man Servant, born Bilderstone, Suffolk.
  18. 1871 Census - 40 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, also with the two Elizabeth's was a Arthur HANCOCK, Grandson, age 17 a Clerk born Ipswich, Suffolk
  19. 1851 Census - James was a Servant, a Grocer's Assistant, aged 17, born Ipswich, Suffolk, living at 4a Bishops Road,  Paddington, London. He was with a Robert KING at this address who was also a Grocer's Assistant
  20. 1871 Census - James was married and living at 10 Carr Street, Ipswich Suffolk, (see Note 17) he was married but had no children. There were three servants and shop assistants at the same address.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
