1934 John Rossall Houldsworth was driving a Bugatti T35 with RL Duller in the 1934 British Empire Trophy at Brooklands a seasoned racer in a crash at Brooklands. On the 31st lap, he lost control as he moved over on the Home Banking just under the Members' Bridge to give way to Whitney Straight. There was a new track layout for this race marked out by straw bales rather than the usual sand banks and it was through these straw bales that Houldsworth charged, shooting up the banking in a treble somersault. Houldsworth was thrown out on the second inversion of the car. He was immediately taken to hospital in a critical condition, accompanied by his wife. His skull was fractured and sadly he died there later in the day aged just 22.
Gravestone inscription, I can only see part of it. It is a large half circle of stone and it reads
In Memory of My Darling Husband
    JOHN ROSSALL HOULDSWORTH
    Killed in the British Empire
    Trophy Race at Brooklands
    on
    23rd June 1934 Aged 22
Then I cannot read the whole inscription on the bottom half of the stone but what I can see reads
??? though death and those he met
??? ??? may find thee now
1934 175 Huntingdon Road, Cambridge (address given at probate)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
