    1871 12 Model Cottages, Kensington Town, Kensington, Middlesex. Married, but living with his mother whilst his wife is a servant elswhere.
    1881 4 Mortimer Terrace, St Paul Hammersmith, Hammersmith, Middlesex
    1882 Benjamin, having sailed from Liverpool, arrived in New York aboard the ship "City of Rome" on the 22 May 1882
    1900 Queens Ward 1. Queens, New York, USA Roll: T623; Page 11B; Enumeration District: 627. Benjamin and John are neighbours.
    There was the following information on ancestry.com for a Benjamin LOVELL
    1871; Arrival: New York , United States;
    Microfilm serial: M237; Microfilm roll: M237_341; Line: 27; List number: 284.
    Benjamin LOVELL went to the US in 1871 on the Ship the "City of Brussels" sailing from Liverpool via Queenstown, Ireland and arriving in New York on the 17th April 1871. He does not appear to have any family with him and he is down as a Mason as his occupation. However, we feel that this is not "our" Benjamin who was living in Kensington, Middlesex at the time of the 1871 census. As this census was taken on the early April 1871 Benjamin could not have been in New York by the 17th of the same month.
    There is a plea for Naturalization for a Benjamin LOVELL who arrived in 1872 and was a Mason whose date of Naturalization was February 17 1886 with the address 306 E 74 St New York. This is most likely the same Benjamin as the one above, but of course it does not say if he went back and forth between 1872 and 1886.
    There is an Anne LOVELL, but aged 26 so birth year 1845, who arrived in New York on the 5th September 1871 out of Liverpool on the "City of Washington", so this is the most likely entry for Hannah. She had with her, according to ancestry.com, a Cho LOVELL born 1841, so a little old for Benjamin, but looking at the actual census it could just as easily be Ben or Benj. Is this couple "our" Benjamin and Hannah?
    They must have travelled to America before May 1872 as that was then the first of their two children with USA birth places was born according to the UK 1881 Census and the various US Censuses.
    There is another sailing for a Benjamin LOVELL in 1868 on the "William PENN" which sailed from Le Havre and London and arrived in New York on the 12th April 1868. This Benjamin was a Bricklayer born 1846 - just like "ours"!
  2. 1872 IGI Shows a birth in New York for a Benjamin Lovell with Benjamin LOVELL and Hannah POWELL as parents.
    1881 Census - 4 Mortimer Terrace, St Paul Hammersmith, Hammersmith, Middlesex
    1883 -  Arrival - New York , United States; Microfilm serial: M237; Microfilm roll: M237_466; Line: 29; List number: 701
    Hannah, Benjamin, John and Florence having sailed from London arrived in New York aboard the Ship, "France" on the 6th June 1883. As William was not with them I assume he died before they sailed. There is a death for a William LOVELL in the September quarter of 1881 in the Fulham district of London, aged 0 who could possibly fit this. (Hannah was down as Annah on the shipping list)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
