  1. 1851 UK Census - 32 George Street, Somers Town, St Pancras, Middlesex.
  2. 1841 Census - Drummond Street, Somers Town, St Pancras, Middlesex
  3. 1871 Census - 118 Stanhope Street, Regent, St Pancras, London
  4. 1861 Census - 58 Upper Marylebone, Middlesex
  5. 1881 Census - 1 Cumberland Terrace, Regents Park, Pancras, Middlesex. A servant to a Francis PLATT a Barrister in Practice and his family.
  6. IGI Baptism and birth date. William was baptised on the same day as Wallis and was 2 years old.
  7. IGI Baptism and birth date, also gives us Maud's second name
  8. IGI Baptism and birth date, also gives us Herbert's second name. Also note that Herbert and Maud were baptised on the same day.
  9. 1901 Census - 13 Chase Road, Brentwood, Essex.
  10. 1901 Census - 1 Chester Place, Regents Park, St Pancras, London. Maud was a servant to an Adelaide E PLATT, aged 39 Living on her own means, born in Marylebone, Middlesex and also her two sisters.
  11. On 1st December 2007 a Charles RIGNALL sent me some feedback as follows: I am a descendant of George Lupton, born in Tavistock in 1801. His father, referred to by Aunt Tercie as George, appears in the records at Stoke Damerel to be John Lupton. It is fascinating that Joanna Doidge's mother was a Trelavon - George of Tavistock went on to marry MaryAnn Pound, as you have recorded, who was a descendant of the Treleaven family of Lanlivery, Cornwall.
I am extremely interested in all references to George/John Lupton who married Joanna Doidge. Extremely.
I do have other information which you could add to your charts, specifically about the family of Elizabeth Emily Grearson, and William Henry Lupton's subsequent removal to New York. Bertha Lupton, who was visiting Lupton Cottages in 1861, for instance, appears to be a child of William Henry Lupton who for some reason was not living with him and Elizabeth Emily. When William left for New York, Bertha stayed with Elizabeth; they lived in Clarence Gardens.
  12. 1881 Census - 21 Cumberland ???, St Pancras, Regents Park, London
  13. William was not with her on the 1881 census although she is down as married - from Note 11 it would appear that William was in New York and I have found a William LUPTON on the 1880 Census in New York at 534, 43rd Street, Manhattan, New York born in 1837 in England, he appears to be married to a Francis who was six years younger than he was and has a daughter Victoria aged 3. He is a Finisher in Piano Factory. At present cannot say if this is the correct William, so will not add to chart above. (this has not been confirmed)
  14. 1861 Census - 5a Lupton Cottages, Grosvenor Street, Walworth, London. Bertha was with her Grandparents on this Census.
  15. 1871 Census - 28 Barker Road?, Kentish Town, St Pancras, Middlesex. Bertha was with her Aunt, Mary TIFFIN née LUPTON and her husband and daughter.
  16. 1891 Census - 49 Clarence Road, St Pancras, London (the second name for Bertha shows sometimes as a H and sometimes as an E, but having now found a marriage for a Bertha Helen and I have looked on the BMD and found that she was registered as such - Bertha Helen, I am therefore certain that the marriage is correct, however the age on the 1901 Census is incorrect and shows that she was born in 1865 whereas we know she was alive in 1861, I think as she was quite a bit older than her husband she had not let on exactly how much older she was)
  17. 1901 Census - 3 Argyll Terrace, Heene, Sussex. They had a daughter, Dorothy, aged 7 born Horner, Hereford. They had a visitor with them. (see note 16 for more information about this marriage etc)
  18. On the 1900 US Census there is a Henry W LUPTON at 107 ??? Street, Manhattan, New York, so the same as I have found on the 1880 Census in New York but this time he is married to an Agnes who was born in England, he is down as being born in May 1837 and is a Piano Maker, his daughter Victoria (on the 1880 Census) is still with them and is down as a fone lady,  (I would think it is phone) she is down as being born June 1877 in New York, she also has a sister, Florence L born December 1880 in New York and also a fone lady.
  19. On the 5th December Charles RIGNALL replied to my comments on the various notes above:
Yes, this is William Henry Lupton.  He is "married" to Francis Agnes Buck.  Sometimes she went by one name, and sometimes by the other.  Emily Elizabeth/Elizabeth Emily listed herself as married, though subsequently she listed herself as a widow.
    He also writes
Yes, this continues to be the same William Henry Lupton.  There was a prior child, Henriette Marie Lupton, who died before Victoria was born. (William and Frances Agnes used false names on the death certificate.) There is yet a fourth infant whose name I have not yet found.  Victoria went on to marry Alfred Faust, and Florence married George Radlein.
I have amended the chart above to show this additional "marriage" and the other information above and using the information I had above to add the extra children of his relationship with Francis.
  20. The is a birth on the BMD which is in 1840 whereas in the USA on the 1900 Census it says she was born in October 1842. On the 1871 Census she is down as  being 28 and therefore born in 1843 but I do believe they are all the same person.
  21. 1871 Census - 185 Seymour Street, Somers Town, St Pancras, London. Francis was with her mother Margaret, aged 67 an Annuitant born London, Middlesex
  22. 1851 Census - 10 Bury Street, Bloomsbury, Middlesex. Father William, Mother Elizabeth and six siblings in total.
  23. 1910 US Census - Manhattan, New York USA
  24. 1920 US Census - Frances is with her daughter Florence and her family. I was told by Charles RIGNALL that Florence married a George RADLIEN but on this Census he is shown as John M. Children - Frances 5 and 6/12ths, Florence 4 and 6/12ths, John 1 and 4/12ths.
  25. 1910 US Census - Bronx Assembly District 32, New York, New York; Roll: T624_998; Page: 16A; Enumeration District: 1470; Image: 421. Daughter Edna L aged 2 born New York, USA and Alfred R 9/12's born New York, USA.
  26. We are not certain if William and Francis married.
  27. 1930 US Census Place: Bridgeport, Fairfield, Connecticut; Roll: 253; Page: 9A; Enumeration District: 69; Image: 776.0.
  28. Have not found on 1920 Census as yet.
  29. 1930 US Census - Frances is with her daughter Florence and her family.
  30. 1890 New York City Directoy - Lupton William Henry, pianomkr. h r 526 W. 29th
  31. 1851 Census - 7 Little ???, Somers Town, St Pancras, Middlesex. On this Census Frances A is 10 born London, Middlesex, she has a sister a Maria E BUCK aged 23 an Artificial Florist born in Liverpool. Her mother is Margaret as the 1871 Census, she is a widow so her husband must have died between 1841 and 1851, she is a Tobacconist, aged 47 born London, Middlesex.
  32. IGI Baptism. Again there is a problem with the age, as there is some doubt about the 1840 and 1842 dates, she was baptised in 1842 but this IGI is of an actual record, however the parents are down as Joseph and Margaret, which is what I was hoping to find, as I think I have found Joseph and Margaret, on the 1841 Census, but if Frances was born in 1840 she should appear with her parents but she does not. (see Note 33) The other birth and baptism that comes up is for a Joseph William BUCK born 13th November 1845 and baptised 26th April 1846 at  Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, again this contradicts the information on Note 33, I therefore think it is possible that the family on Note 33 is not the same one, I would also have expected to find Maria E BUCK who is on the 1851 Census born around 1828 in Liverpool. I think the two baptisms are correct. I will not put on the actual Chart until I find something that confirms the information in this Note.
  33. 1841 Census - Newgate Street, St Sepulchre without Newgate, Middlesex. Joseph is down as being 35 and a Toolmaker, Margaret is down as being 35 and there are the following children, Emma 15 and Joseph 9.
  34. 1841 Census - 10 Bury Street, Bloomsbury, Middlesex.
  35. I received a Gedcom from a Charlie RIGNALL in early December 2007, the following is the relevant notes contained in it for William Henry LUPTON which are not already covered on the Chart above or I have left for confirmation of the information I have found for the various Censuses etc..
Family legend: After WHL and Agnes were married, they were shipped off to America. They were supposed to go out to Ohio, where an uncle lived (Thomas Lupton, actually a brother), but they landed in NYC and decided to stay. He put his money in the bank and lost it all in the financial panic of 1873. So, he went to work for one of the large piano manufacturers as a cabinet maker. (Steinway, in Queens.) Lupton/Buck would act Shakespeare at parties, after a drink or two, much to the embarrassment of Victoria and Florence.
Address on Herbert Henry's birth certificate in 1860 is shown as 22 Montpelier Terrace, in Kensington, which does not exist, according to Rose Research.
In 1871 census, WHL lived with Elizabeth, HH and MM at 118 Stanhope Road. Piano maker / finisher. EE's age is shown as 37, so she has gained three years since her marriage in 1854.
WHL shown in Manhattan in 1880 census with Frances Agnes, Florence, and Victoria. Piano maker/ finisher.

In 1900, 63 years old - therefore, born in 1836-1837. FAB 57. Married 28 years, so marriage around 1872 - same year as arrival. Address shown as 107 E. 129th St. Victoria and Frances both born in New York, both 'fone-ladies.'
1910, WHL 72 years old, came in 1872, naturalized. Wife 67, also came in 1872. At 119 E 129th St. There is a date discrepancy for years married that needs to be checked. Note: Enumeration District 426.
Buried in St. Michael's Cemetery, 7202 Astoria Ave, Woodside, NY City, Grave 34, range 49, plot 6. The cemetery had much decayed and it is possible his headstone was destroyed.
    1880 census - page 27, district 1, enumeration district 441 Lupton William M 43, Francis F 37; finisher in piano factory, housekeeping. Victoria F 3, daughter

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
