BOWERS
  1. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
Memorial Inscription - Darenth Church Yard: Mr George Knight Mackney of this parish died 10.7.1860 aged 55. Sarah Ann daughter of the above died in infancy. Henry George son of the above died at Meerut, East Indies, 30.10.1857 aged 28. Sophia widow of the above George Knight Mackney died 31.1.1866 aged 60. - There appears to be a Sarah Ann, a daughter who died in infancy who does not appear on the Chart above. I cannot find on the BMD and know dates are given on the inscription, so at present not knowing where to put her on the above chart I have left it as a note. Also Henry appears on this inscription but I am not certain if he was just included. I would not think that they returned his body from Meerut.
  2. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
1861 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent
Memorial Inscription - Darenth Church Yard: Mr George Knight Mackney of this parish died 10.7.1860 aged 55. Sarah Ann daughter of the above died in infancy. Henry George son of the above died at Meerut, East Indies, 30.10.1857 aged 28. 5. 1851 Census - No 6, The Terrace, Champion Hill, Dulwich, Camberwell, Surrey. Elizabeth was a servant to a Robert CUNINGHAM a Wine Merchant.
Found a marriage on the BMD of an Elizabeth Charlotte MACKNEY in Camberwell, which is where Elizabeth was living in 1851 so I am fairly certain that is is the correct marriage. I cannot find any Elizabeth married to any of the three surnames of males on that BMD after that date. As we know she died in Australia it is possible that they went to Australia between 1852 and 1861. Have now been contacted about Elizabeth Charlotte MACKNEY and confirmed she went to Australia having married Thomas GREENSTREET. I am told there are seven children. These appear on the IGI so will put a chart on for this family.
  6. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
  7. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
  8. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
I received an email from a Glynda NOLAN on 1st February 2007 relating to Alfred MACKNEY above. I have added the marriage she mentions in her email. I hope more information will be forthcoming on this line.
  9. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent.
1861 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent
1871 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent. On this Census there was their son, 11 months, born Darenth, Kent and there was an Amelia E BARNETT, sister in law, aged 12 born Dartford, Kent. There was also a servant a Pot Boy.
1881 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent. There was an Edith HART, sister in law, aged 26, married born Dartford, Kent and Lilian E HART, niece, aged 11 months born Dartford, Kent. There were other people in the house, servants and lodgers. There was just Edmund and Harriet, (no children).
Darenth Memorial Inscriptions - Edmund Mackney died 6.4.1883 aged 40. Harriet Amelia wife of the above died 21.2.1886 aged 37.
On the Memorial Inscriptions for Darenth there is also the following: James Parker died June 22 1885 aged 68. Erected by Edmund and Harriet Amelia Mackney of this parish. So Edmund and Harriet did something, ie erect a memorial stone for a James PARKER, but I do not know who James PARKER is
Darenth Memorial Inscriptions - Edmund, only child of Edmund and Harriet Amelia Mackney died 25.9.1872 aged 2 years and 5 months
  10. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent. There was an Alfred HALLEN, lodger, aged 40 a Miller born Middleton, Derbyshire with the family.
1861 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent
1871 Census - 91 Asylum Road, Camberwell, Surrey. They had a servant a Blanche HART. This is a very difficult census to read.
1891 Census - Verandah Cottage, Mitcham, Surrey. There was a visitor with Matilda and William, a Luke D MONTRACE, a Vet born in Ireland, aged 36
1901 Census - Verandah House, The Street, Worlington, Suffolk
  11. 1851 Census - Chequers Bible House, Darenth, Kent.
1861 Census - The Chequers, Darenth, Kent
1871 Census - Lowfield Street, Dartford, Kent. Alfred's father Jonathan BOWER was with them he was 74 a widower a Bargebuilder born Mile End, London.
1881 Census - Back of Rose Cottage, Sutton at Hone, Dartford, Kent
1891 Census - Oxbourne Cottage, Shoreham, Kent.
1901 Census - 46 Mill Lane, Carshalton, Surrey. Emma is down as married, not as a widow, but Alfred is not with the family.
1911 48 Mill Lane Carshalton, Surrey (again Alfred is not with them but Emma is down as Married 43 years)

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
