    Eric John Filby (1917-2004) was a male English international table tennis and lawn tennis player. He won a bronze medal at the 1938 World Table Tennis Championships in the men's doubles with Hyman Lurie. In 1950 he moved from Norfolk to Croydon. Filby played in the 1955 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles.

    Obiturary for Eric John FILBY from the Daily Telegraph
    Eric John on Thursday 9th December, aged 87 peacefully in hospital. Beloved husband of the late Marie, dear Father of Peter and Tricia and grandfather of Christopher, Vicky, Amy and Melissa. Private cremation followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St John's Church, Hurst Green, Oxted, Surrey on Monday, 20th December at 2.30 p.m.
