JOHNSON
  1. 1841 Census - Spellars Court, St John's, Margate, Kent
1851 Census - 6 Spellars Court St John's Margate, Kent
1857 BMD - both the females on the page are Emma, so I do not know if it was Emma FISHER or Emma HOLNESS that George married
1861 Census - 11 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent.
1871 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1891 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
  2. 1857 BMD - both the females on the page are Emma, so I do not know if it was Emma FISHER or Emma HOLNESS that George married
1861 Census - 11 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent.
1871 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1891 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1901 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent. With Emma was a William SANDWELL Grandson aged 3 At School, born Euston, London and Maud CASHFORD Granddaughter aged 12 born Ramsgate, Kent
1911 13 Charleston Street, Walworth, SE, London. With her daughter Emma YATES née SANDWELL as a visitor.
  3.

  5. 1871 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1880 54A Elliots Road, Southwark, London. (baptism of Charles Damon)
1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent

1911 13 Charleston Street, Walworth, SE, London. With the family was an Emma SANDWELL a visitor born 1838 aged 73 down as being born in Folkstone, Kent
It would appear that Emma and Ellen both married in the same quarter in 1899 in Southwark but appear to have been living with their partners long before this. So perhaps they decided to marry at the same time to legitimize they marriages.
  6. 1871 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1880 54A Elliots Road, Southwark, London. (baptism of Charles Damon)
1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent

1911 13 Charleston Street, Walworth, SE, London. With the family was an Emma SANDWELL a visitor born 1838 aged 73 down as being born in Folkstone, Kent (Emma is down as having had five children only two of which survive at the time of this Census)
It would appear that Emma and Ellen both married in the same quarter in 1899 in Southwark but appear to have been living with their partners long before this. So perhaps they decided to marry at the same time to legitimize they marriages.

    1891 Not fond at present.
1901 13 Polygon Buildings (Block C) Somers Town St Pancras London. William was a widower so I think his son William was with his Grandmother in Margate.
1901 13 C Blck Polygon Buildings Somers Town, Camden, Middlesex. William was a widower aged 34 a Railway Porter, his father is down as George SANDWELL deceased a Boatman (at marriage)
1911 21a Block Polygon Buildings, Clarendon Square NW. I It would appear that William had married again in about 1901 as down as being married 10 years to a Emma L born Lechampstead, Buckinghamshire. William is down as having one child still living. His son is down as William J aged 13 born St Pancras, London.
On 8th March 2011 I have the following email
Are you going to have chart number 0403 posted online anytime soon? I am a direct descendant of George Sandwell (born around 1835) through his son William Sandwell (1867-1934) who moved to London in the late 1890s after he came out of the navy and only had one male child to keep the line going. George Sandwell was my great, great grandfather and all the Sandwell information you've collected and posted has been a great revelation I must say. Please advise
As George was only three on the 1901 it would mean that his mother must have died between 1898 and 1901. There is just one death in the Pancras district in this period with SANDWELL as surname and that is for a
Caroline in March quarter 1899 aged 32. I would therefore think that this is the correct person.
  9. 1871 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
  10. 1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1891 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1901 19 Princes Crescent, St John the Baptist, Margate, Kent.
1911 4 Chandos Villas, Nash Court Road, Margate, Kent.  Esther is down as having been married 10 years and having four children all of whom are living. So why on the 1901 was their child down as Louisa when on the 1911 she is down as Elizabeth and the third child is down as Louisa born in 1906.
  11. 1881 21 Paradise Street, Margate, Kent
1891 15 Charles Street, Newington, Walworth, London.  I believe Frederick was with his sister Emma on this census
1901 93 Penton Place, Newington, London. Frederick was a Boarder with a James CODLING aged 29 a Pavement Light Fitter born Bradfield, Norfolk, his wife Ellen aged 26 born Waldringfield, Suffolk and children George aged 3 and Mary aged 1 born Newington, London. There was another visitor a Minnie BRUNDELL aged 26 born East Dereham, Norfolk.
1901 27 Hanbury Road, Camberwell, London -Father George SANDWELL (deceased) Fisherman (address at marriage)
1911 131 Linden Grove, Camberwell, Peckham South, London. Children Jane Louise aged 8 born Peckham, London, Letitia Ellen aged 6 born Peckham, London and Frederick Charles aged 1 born Peckham, London
    Information for Letitia Elizabeth JOHNSON
1901 3 Ansdell Road, Camberwell, London. Father Charles JOHNSON - Warehouseman (address at marriage)

The various family trees and other information vary to that which I have above. However because of the witnesses at marriages and other bits of information I have found I believe what I have above it the correct interpretation of this family. If any one has information which does not agree with what I have please let me know. I do like to get the information on my chart as accurate as possible so any corrections, mistakes, additions etc would be more than welcome. I have no information for this chart when I started this morning the 6th March 2011, only that on the 1861 George and Emma had a son aged one year old. I have found everything else out over the day. It just shows how much the internet has made finding our ancestors easier. In the old days I would have travelled to London and spent the day searching the records possibly just finding one or two additions to the information I had.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
