Mr. Edward Temple, landlord of the Coach and Horses, High street, Woolwich, said that on Wednesday evening the prisoner called upon him and asked for a subscription to Mr. Hirsch's new church, now building at the corner of Rope Yard Rials. He produced a book containing the names of a number of persons belonging to the town, with various subscriptions set down against them, and witness, while looking at it, asked him whose signature it was at the bottom, to which he replied that is was Mr. Hirsch's. Witness then asked what sum he ought to give, and the prisoner replied "I am only a Sunday-school teacher, and you see that I have put down a sovereign." While witness was looking at the book, his wife came in with Mrs Startup, the wife of a baker living next door, and Mrs. Temple  said "Why that is the young man to whom I gave "s. about six weeks ago.". Mrs. Startup also said that she had given the prisoner money for the same object about a fortnight since, and the prisoner thereupon snatched the book for witnesses and bolted. Witness and Mr. startup pursued him up High Street as far as Edward Street, where they lost sight of him, but ascertained who he was and informed the police.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
