    For many years Martha had been the housemaid/nanny at the home of the GOODENS in Potters Bar. She was everything to that family particularly Stephen GOODEN a famous artist who did much work for Queen Mary.

    "In 1904.....in those days my father walked or cycled all over London and was probably present" ...at the wedding in 1904 of Joseph William SPURGEON and Annie STOKES.... "before knowing mother. When my parents married in 1907 Aunt Pattie was the Warboys representative and they went to Warboys as a kind of honeymoon".
    "In the 1930s my parents took my brother and I every year for a fortnight's holiday to Alderminster (near Stratford-on-Avon where Uncle George and family owned the village store and post office. Every year he took my father to Warboys in his motor cycle and sidecar (later Austin Seven) to see their mother etc. "
