    Victory Medal
Given the information we have available it is likely that Leon Alfred TAVARE was entitled to the Victory medal, also called the Inter Allied Victory Medal. This medal was awarded to all who received the 1914 Star or 1914-15 Star and, with certain exceptions, to those who received the British War Medal. It was never awarded alone. These three medals were sometimes irreverently referred to as Pip, Squeak and Wilfred.
Eligibility for this award consisted of having been mobilised, fighting, having served in any of the theatres of operations, or at sea, between midnight 4th/5th August, 1914, and midnight, 11th/12th November, 1918. Women who served in any of the various military organisations in a theatre of operations were also eligible.
    British War Medal
From the information available to us, it is very possible that Leon Alfred TAVARE was entitled to the British War Medal for service in World War One. This British Empire campaign medal was issued for services between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918.
The medal was automatically awarded in the event of death on active service before the completion of this period.
    Silver War Badge
The Silver War Badge was issued in the United Kingdom to service personnel who had been honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness during World War I. The badge, sometimes known as the Discharge Badge, Wound Badge or Services Rendered Badge, was first issued in September 1916, along with an official certificate of entitlement.
The sterling silver lapel badge was intended to be worn in civilian clothes. It had been the practice of some women to present white feathers to apparently able-bodied young men who were not wearing the King's uniform. The badge was to be worn on the right breast while in civilian dress, it was forbidden to wear on a military uniform.
The badge bears the royal cipher of GRI (for Georgius Rex Imperator; George, King and Emperor) and around the rim "For King and Empire; Services Rendered". Each badge was uniquely numbered on the reverse. The War Office made it known that they would not replace Silver War Badges if they went missing, however if one was handed into a police station then it would be returned to the War Office. If the original recipient could be traced at his or her discharge address then the badge would be returned.

The Guards Machine Regiment was initially formed in 1915 when machine-gun companies were beginning to form in the Guards Division. In April 1917, the four companies merged to form the Machine Gun Guards. In 1918, it was renamed again by Royal Warrant to the 6th or Machine Gun Regiment of Foot Guards. In June, the regiment was reorganised into five battalions. The Machine Gun Guards were disbanded in 1920.

Christopher James TAVARÉ (/'tæv?re?/;), (Born 27 October 1954, in Orpington, Kent)[1] is an English retired cricketer, who played in thirty one Tests and twenty nine One Day Internationals between 1980 and 1989. His style of play was characterised by spending long periods at the crease, during which he scored relatively few runs.
    Life and career
TAVARÉ was educated at Sevenoaks School and St John's College, Oxford, where he graduated with a degree in zoology. He played cricket for Oxford University, Kent and Somerset as an attacking right-handed batsman.
He adapted his natural game to meet the requirements of the Test side, becoming a notorious blocker. In 1981 against Australia at Old Trafford he scored 69 and 78, but was at the crease for twelve hours. His 50 in five hours and fifty minutes, against Pakistan in 1982, was the second slowest in the history of the English game. Among his slowest innings was a score of 35 runs in six-and-a-half hours at Madras in the 1981/2 season. In 2012, Alex MASSIE wrote that, for TAVARÉ, scoring runs seemed "a disagreeable, even vulgar, distraction from the pure task of surviving". The Test selectors dropped TAVARÉ in 1984, after he had made 25 Test appearances, following another time-consuming score of 14 against the Sri Lankans.[
TAVARÉ captained Kent for three years, before he was replaced by Chris COWDREY in 1986. He moved to Somerset as captain in 1989, following a successful benefit in 1988. He was recalled for one Test Match against Australia in 1989.
TAVARÉ is currently a biology teacher at his alma mater, Sevenoaks School. TAVARÉ is first cousin of comedian Jim TAVARÉ.

British Gas bailiff 'used bullying tactics' on knight, 91, over unpaid £5k bill... when he didn't even have a supply
    By Lee Moran
British Gas has been accused of using 'bullying tactics' on a 91-year-old to recover an unpaid £5,000 bill - despite him never having had gas at his home.
Sir John Tavare, 91, and his 87-year-old wife Lady Daphne were stunned when a debt collector arrived at their house in Prestbury, Cheshire, and claimed they owed the money.
This was because the couple, who have lived there for 30 years, have never used the fuel.
Sir John Tavare, 91, and his 87-year-old wife Lady Daphne were shocked when a debt collector arrived at their house in Prestbury, Cheshire, and claimed they owed more than £5,000
Sir John, a respected businessman who received a knighthood for a campaign to clear up the River Mersey, later called police after thinking he could have been the victim of a scam.
But British Gas admitted there had been a blunder, and eventually apologised to the family by stating the outstanding debt was owed by someone at a property of a 'similar address'.
Nick Tavare, the couple's son, said his parents were deeply disturbed by the experience and accused British Gas of employing 'bullying' tactics without having first made sufficient checks.
He said: 'A man came along to see the gas meter. He refused to show any identification.
'When he was told there was no meter, he began to shout 'If you don't give me access to the house, I will come back with a bailiff in the middle of the night and kick the door down'.
British Gas bosses have apologised for the mix-up
'Fortunately for my parents, their carer was in and answered the door as well as a guest who also overheard what was said.
'My parents are 91 and 87. If they had been in on their own, who knows what would have happened?'
Sir John, the former chairman of the Mersey Basin Campaign, helped raise funding to clean up the polluted river and attract new developments.
He was awarded a CBE for services to industry.
'How can it be that they can send debt collectors to a house that has no gas without doing any basic checks first of all?'
    - Nick Tavares
His son added: 'One of the problems was we couldn't speak to anyone in authority to deal with the problem.
'British Gas eventually conceded the house with the alleged debt has the same street name but a different post code - and a completely different name.
'How can it be that they can send debt collectors to a house that has no gas without doing any basic checks first of all?'
British Gas bosses apologised for the mix-up and spokesman Sara Powell-Davies said: 'I am very sorry for any upset and inconvenience.
'We visited their property in error and we have contacted Mr and Mrs Tavare to apologise and to advise them that we have updated our records to make sure this doesn't happen again.'
And debt recovery firm Chase Solutions denied their caller had acted aggressively on the doorstep.
John Wolfenden, from the Chorley-based firm, said: 'Our agent visited the address, in connection with an unpaid British Gas account of £5,134.62.
'Our agent, who has been engaged in this work for some years, denies emphatically any allegation that he behaved in a threatening, bullying or intimidatory way.
'Our agent asserts that throughout his conduct was business-like.'
A spokesman for Cheshire Police confirmed they had received a phone call immediately after the visit.
He said : 'A call reported that a man who purported to be a debt collector was demanding money in an aggressive manner.
'On investigation it transpired he was a legitimate collector working on behalf of a gas company but had gone to the wrong address.'

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
