  1. We now have a copy of the Will of William TERRY, I will try and put on a transcription of this in the next few weeks. It starts
    This is the last Will and Testament of me William Terry of Ramsgate in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Yeoman First I Give and devise All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Outhouses Buildings Yard and Ground hereunto belonging with the Appurtenances situate lying and being in King Street in Ramsgate aforesaid and now in my own Occupation unto my Son Thomas Terry and his Assigns for and during the Term of his natural Life he my said Son keeping the same in Repair Subject to the Payment of six Pounds of lawful money a Year to my son William Terry and my Daughters Mary Danton Wife of Isaac Danton and Elizabeth Read Wife of George Read and their Assigns and after the Decease of my said Son Thomas Terry I Give and Devise all my said Messauage or Tenement with the Outhouses Buildings Yard and Ground thereunto belonging with the Appurtenances unto the Eldest Son of my said Thomas Terry his heirs and Assigns for ever on his keeping the same in good repair and subject to the Payment of the Yearly Rent of six Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to my said son William Terry and my Daughters Mary Danton and Elizabeth Read and their Assigns, And as for and concerning all other my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever with the Appurtenances I give and devise the same unto my Sons William Terry and Thomas Terry and my said Daughters Mary Danton and Elizabeth Read their heirs and Assigns equally between them Share and Share alike during their Lives And after the Decease of either or any of them I Give and Devise the Share or Shares of him or them equally between their respective Children Share and Share alike But it is my express Will and Desire that in case my said son William Terry shall die without leaving any Issue that his Share of and in my said Messuages Lands Tenement Hereditaments and real Estate with the Appurtenances shall be equally divided between my said Son Thomas Terry and my Daughters Mary Danton and Elizabeth Read their heirs and Assigns Share and Share alike And I give and bequeath all my Horses Carts carriages and Harnesses unto my said Son Thomas Terry to be delivered to him immediately after my Decease And as for and Concerning all the Residue of my Household Furniture Effects Goods Money Chattels and person Estate whatsoever I Give and bequeath the same unto my Sons William Terry and Thomas Terry and my daughters Mary Danton and Elizabeth Read equally between them Share and Share alike But it is my will and desire that in Case my said Daughter Mary Danton should at any time be Distressed for an House to live in that my said Daughter Mary Danton shall occupy and reside in my Messuage or Tenement with the Appurtenances situate at Hereson in the said Isle of Thanet and now in the occupation of Bentley and his Assigns paying to my said Sons William Terry Thomas Terry and my said Daughters Mary Danton and Elizabeth Read or their Assigns the yearly Rent or Sum of Four Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain And I do appoint Nicholas Spurgeon of Ramsgate aforesaid Butcher and my Kinsman William Minter of the same place Yeoman Executors of this my Will and do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twenty third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen

  4. The memorial stone of John Mayner TERRY still exists in St Laurence Churchyard, as do some other people in this book in Churchyards in Thanet. Many are in poor condition and either difficult to read or illegible. John’s headstone is in remarkable good condition and reads as follows: In Memory of John Mayner Terry who departed this life 19th of April 1791. aged 17 Years. Our latter Days are burdensome Our Youth was sore oppressed Till Christ was pleased to call him hence To his Eternal Rest’ - The Old English long ’s’ was used in the words ’burdensome, oppressed and Christ’.
