Obituary for Margaret Afton GARDNER née TOOLSON
St. George, UT - Margaret Afton Toolson Gardner passed away June 18, 2009 in St. George, UT. She was born February 9, 1925 in Burley, Idaho.
She met Rulon B. Gardner at Utah State University and they were married in 1947. They had five children: Rulon J., James R., Stephen T., Robert J. and Janet P., and were married 59 years until Rulon's passing in 2006.
Most of Rulon's working years were with the U.S. Forest Service so Margaret wrangled the family from forest to forest from Alaska to Michigan. There were lots of changes and challenges but Margaret's family could always count on a loving, nurturing home. Next to her family, Margaret loved playing the piano and organ at church the most and did so most of her life.
Margaret and Rulon spent 20 years in Bozeman, MT., before retiring to St. George in 1985.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington Hills LDS 10th Ward, 1222 E. Brigham Rd., St. George, UT.
Interment will be in the Pine Valley Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary
    Information for Rulon Bowen GARDNER
Rulon B. Gardner passed away on November 18, 2006 after suffering a severe stroke on November 11. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 60 years, at the family home in St. George and by his daughter Janet, husband Andy Katz and grandson Ryan of Trumbull, CT; son Bob of St. George; son Steve of Kalispell, MT; son Jim and wife Annette of Portland, OR; son Rulon J. and wife Jill Zignego of Kalispell, MT and granddaughter Jasmine of Austin, TX.
Rulon was born on June 24, 1923 in Logan, to Rulon Snow and Mayma Bowen Gardner. He graduated from Logan High and entered Utah State in 1941. After two years as a Navy pilot he returned to Utah State in 1945. One year later he married Margaret Toolson on September 14, 1946. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1949.
He went to work for the US Forest Service in 1955 and served in various engineering positions in National Forests in Utah, Idaho and Alaska until he took a project manager position in one of the newly formed Engineering Research labs at Michigan Tech in 1961. He transferred to the lab on the campus of Montana State in Bozeman in 1964 and managed that facility until he retired in 1983. In 1986 Rulon and Margaret moved to the current family home in St. George.
Rulon loved to golf and ski and he made sure that all of his kids learned. He played golf on a state championship golf team at Logan High and on Utah State's first team and he was the Logan CC club champion in 1947. He continued to ski through the 80's and remained an avid golfer until the last year or two. His travels with the Forest Service took the family to some of this country's most beautiful places and he helped his children develop an appreciation for the natural splendor of our National Forests.
Readers of the Salt Lake Tribune are aware that Rulon remained true to the conservative values of small government, personal freedoms and conservation of resources and did not hesitate to point out shortcomings whenever he saw them and whoever the offender happened to be.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bloomington Hills 10th Ward. Interment will be at the Pine Valley Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Memorials should be sent to the St. George Hospice

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
