  1. 1871 Census - New Chart to do for this family - 2 Doubble Cottages, St Peter, Ramsgate, Kent. John WASTALL was 30 an Ag Lab born St Peter, Broadstairs, Kent, his wife was Sarah Jane WASTALL, age 36 born St Lawrence, Ramsgate, Kent, a Labourers wife, Son Henry George WASTALL, age 1 born St Peter, Broadstairs, Kent and Annie Martha WASTALL, age 2 born St Peter, Broadstairs, Kent (that is the order on the Census). Also living with them is Sarah Jane WASTALL, father - George SETTERFIELD, Father-in-Law, Age 70 a Widower, an Agricultural Labourer, born Garlinge, Margate, Kent
  2. 1881 Census - At present cannot find this family on the 1881 Census, but I have found the daughter Annie Martha WASTALL aged 12 as a Servant at Ranelagh Grove Ranelagh Lodge, St Peters, Kent. Emily Fanny CLARKE was the Head/Wife and was born in Poplar, London.
  3. 1891 Census - Found Sarah WASTALL as a widow at Vicarage Street, St Peter, Ramsgate, Kent. Harry G WASTALL son age 21 a General Labourer, born St Peter, Kent and William J WASTALL son age 19 a General Labourer, age 19 were with her.
  4. 1881 Census - 4 Thaxted Cottage, Vicarage Street, St Peters, Kent
  5. 1901 Census - Vicarage Street, St Peters, Kent
  6. 1901 Census - Census - Henry (Harry) was single on the 1891 Census, but he is down as a Widower on the 1901 Census. His marriage does appear on the BMD site in 1895 and there is a death for a Rose WASTALL in December quarter of 1896 so I have put the female with this name on the BMD marriages as his wife. She was 26 at her death. The other person on the marriage page was a Louisa Kate DARLING (just in case I have got it wrong). There is a Roase SLIPPER, born in 1869 in Chatham, Kent and on the 1891 Census as a Servant in Paddington, London who could fit the Rose SLIPPER about
  7. On the 1881 Census the Rose SLIPPER shown in Note 6 was down as a Niece, living at 9 Union Sqr, St Peters, Kent, so this makes it more likely that she is the correct wife, as she definitely knew St Peters, Kent, although being born in Chatham and working in London. Thomas LUCKETT, was the Head of the Household where she was put down as niece, she was 11 years old and a Scholar.
  8. Could not find Annie under either of the possibilities - Frederick BISHOP or George WEATHERHEAD on the 1891 Census although she married in 1890. However on the 1901 Census I am certain I have the right couple and it appears she married Frederick BISHOP. They have two children, Jessie and Robert, and I will make a new Chart for the family.
  9. 1901 Census - Robert WASTALL was in the Royal Navy on the ship Warspite, aged 28, born Ramsgate, Kent, a Yeoman of Signals.
  10. 1891 Census - Mary WASTALL was a Servant at "Leasows" St Peters Road, St Peters, Ramsgate, Kent, aged 16 she was a General Servant, Housemaid, born St Peters, Ramsgate, Kent
  11. 1901 Census - I cannot find a Mary WASTALL on the 1901 Census that fits the above. There is a marriage in June 1896 of a Mary Elizabeth WASTALL to a John Lacey BURVILL or BURVILE, or a Thomas William MORTLEY, the Thomas William MORTLEY is possibly the correct one as the Mary MORTLEY is the correct age, born in the correct place and there is a visitor with the name of SETTERFIELD with them, although I cannot quickly place which family she belongs. There is another marriage of a Mary Eliza WASTALL in December 1896 to a George NEAME or a Charles Andrew WASTALL, I cannot place a Mary with either of these with the right birth place and age. So at the present time going with the MORTLEY idea, the family were: Thomas MORTLEY, aged 31, a House Painter/Decorator, born St Lawrence, Kent, living at 40 High Street, St Peter Intra, Kent, Mary MORTLEY, age 25, born St Peter, Kent, George MORTLEY, son, age 4, born St Peter, Kent, Maria SETTERFIELD, widow, age 70, no occupation, born St Peter, Kent. There was also an Ellen HUCKSTOP, aged 35 a Collar Ironer, as a lodger, born St Peter, Kent and possibly her two children ? HUCKSTOP, age 5 and Charles HUCKSTOP, age 3 both down as lodgers and born in Ramsgate, Kent, Ellen is down as married. Cannot read first child, but it is down as a son, whereas Ancestry.com has deciphered it as Ann.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
