George Young WHEATON : Offence - Bigamy : Sentence - 6 Cal Months
  2. 1860 Peacock Street, Newington, Surrey
    1861 Not found with certainty
1871 28 Darwin Street, St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey
It would appear that George left Anne and married bigamously! Anne appears to have died after George remarried. However, the only certificate we can find which might apply has the husband as John WHEATON a Cab Driver. A John ALLDIS reported the death and was present at 49 Clinn Street, Bermondsey, Surrey. Perhaps as she was a WHEATON, and he was a John, she became the "wife" of John WHEATON". There was a John ALLDIS on the 1871 census age 36 Cab Driver born Southwark, Surrey. He had a wife Ellen and son John (17) born Bermondsey, Surrey. We shall never know the answer!
    Details from the death certificate:
Died 10th April 1878 49 Clinn Street, Bermondsey, Surrey

wife of John WHEATON Cab Driver

  3. 1874 95 Bermondsey Street, Bermondsey, Surrey
Flora Rubenia STUART is shown as a widow on her marriage certificate, but her father's name is also shown as STUART
No suitable death found on the BMD for Flora
  4. 1871 28 Darwin Street, St George the Martyr, Surrey
1881 39 Castle Street, Southwark St George the Martyr, Surrey . Lodging with Mary Ann HOLLAND (Pedlar, Age 40, born Bermondsey) and her
    son and daughter
    1891 6 Garden Cottages, Lambeth, London (RG12/398 folio 23 page 39)
1901 There was no George WHEATON recorded on the 1901 census. However, there was the
    following:
7 Youngs Road, London Road, St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey
George WEBB (39) Dock???? Labourer born London Bermondsey and
Cecilia WEBB (36) born Isle of Thanet, Kent
Other than the surname these details match George and Cecilia.
Cecilia died in the Croydon District, Surrey in 1905, Croydon being south of Southwark,
and George died in the Southwark District.
There was also an adopted daughter, Lily McKENZIE (3) born Clapham, Surrey
1911 85 Frant Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey
    More problems!
George WHEATON (51) widower born London a Labourer was the son-in-law of Susan
LARGE (66) widow Kept by Children born Lady Wells, Kent. Living with her were here son
Ernest (33) Carman and daughter (27) Charing both born Bermondsey, Surrey. A Visitor
was Phelie DENNIS (2 months born South Lambeth, Surrey. Ceclia SMITH (2) born
Whitechapel, London was a Nurse Child.
Also living with them was George WHEATON's daughter Lilly WHEATON (13) School born
Clapham, Surrey, which corresponds with the Lily McKENZIE (3) born Clapham, Surrey on
the above 1901 census. The information for George WHEATON also corresponds with the
details we have for this George Ernest WHEATON.
    * There is no Lily/Lilly WHEATON birth registered 1896/1898 so it does suggest that Lily McKENZIE (1901) and Lilly WHEATON (1911) are the same person
    * Cecilia WHEATON died in the Croydon District
    * George Ernest WHEATON married Cecilia YOUNG confirmed through copy of original index
    * On the 1881 census Edward and Susan LARGE had a daughter Cecilia
    * On the 1871 census there is a Cecilia YOUNG living as a boarder with another family; I cannot find a Susan LARGE or YOUNG.
    * There is a Cecilia YOUNG birth registered December quarter 1864 Thanet District, Kent. There was no Ceclia LARGE birth registered in Kent during this 1864/1866
Despite the differences in the name I do feel that this is the right family, needs further research

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
