  1. 1801 IGI Baptism - Parents down as  Phillip and Sarah
1841 Census - Melly Street, Northam, Devon
1851 Cross Street, Northam, Devon. - On the 1851 Census there was a Charlotte BERTON (BRITTON) staying with this family, sister-in-law, aged 19 a Dressmaker, born Clovelly Devon, as I take this as a sister in law of the Head of the family George HUTCHINGS and that Charlotte was 19 and unmarried and born in Clovelly, I assume that she was a sister of Harriett and therefore Harriett’s maiden name was also BERTON  (BRITTON)
1861 Census - Cross Street, Northam, Devon
1871 Census - Cross Street, Northam, Devon
IGI - The IGI shows some information which I think gives us a clue to the first marriage of George. It has his wife down as Jane and there are baptisms down for a George in 1830 and Dorothy in 1832 so I think it is the correct couple. This is IGI information but it is original and not supplied material so it is likely to be correct. So Jane's name added, marriage details and baptisms for George and Dorothy. No other children come up on the baptisms on the IGI with George and Jane as parents.
On the BMD there is a marriage of a George Burdick HUTCHINGS in the March quarter of 1852 in Bideford district. There is a problem with this however as the two possible people he married were an Elizabeth EYERS or a Mary DARK. I do not think it is the Head of Household as he was still married to Harriet on the 1861 Census. If the son George had Burdick as a second name it could be him but he should be married to a Susannah as that is his wife's name on the Censuses after 1861. He could have married of course in 1852 and remarried again before 1856 when George and Susannah had their first child, his first wife possibly died in this period. I cannot find a marriage of a George HUTCHINGS to a Susannah in the period between 1850 and 1856 in Devon, so this remains a query. Of course this marriage could be of another George in this line of the family as I would think he BURDICK came from the mother's maiden name of George Burdick HUTCHINGS and therefore one of the other children could have had a son George.
  2. 1799 IGI possible baptism as in Northam Devon which is where first children were born, Parents are down as John and Grace Lethbridge

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
