  1. 1851 Census - 2 Sparrow Castle, Margate, Kent (The information given to me indicates the above family at that of John, but there is another John KNIGHT with a wife Harriet of similar age living in the Margate area)
1861 Census - No 2 Prospect Place, Margate St John the Baptist. John is down as married but Harriet is not with him on this Census. (This address appears to be what I have, but as they are living at 2 Sparrow Castle on the 1851 and 1871 Census I wonder if it is one and the same place.)
1871 Census - 2 Sparrow Castle, Margate, Kent
  2. 1851 Census - 2 Sparrow Castle, Margate, Kent (The information given to me indicates the above family at that of John, but there is another John KNIGHT with a wife Harriet of similar age living in the Margate area)

1861 Census - No 2 Prospect Place, Margate St John the Baptist.
1871 Census - Stourmouth Lane, Stourmouth, Kent. I am fairly happy with this family, it would appear that John married, possibly a cousin, as his wife has the same name as his mother.
1881 Census - 77 Milton Road, Margate, Kent. Joseph at 24, John's brother was Head of Household, John and family were with him.
1891 Census - 9 Milton Square, Margate, Kent
1901 Census - 9 Milton Square, Margate, Kent (I think that Richard J who appears on this Census is the same person that appeared as Job on the 1881 Census) (It appears that the oldest son George is living next door at number 10)

On 9th January 2007 I was told by a David BURRIN in feedback from this Web Site that the person I had down as Agar KNIGHT was indeed Hagar and that she married a Henry ROBERTS. He also sent me a copy of a letter from Hagar from her school to her parents in Sparrow Castle, Margate, Kent. I will put a transcript of this in Note 9.
Transcript of letter sent by Hagar KNIGHT to her parents - St John's Schools, Margate, 23rd December 1867. My Dear Parent, I am writing this to tell that our Christmas holidays will commence next week; we have two weeks vactation. When we return to school, we shall have to work very hard because the Inspector will come to examine us; after which, the twenty half crowns will be given with several other prizes, to the most regular ad most attentive girls. I hope we shall all spend a happy and pleasant Christmas. I am My Dear Parents, Your Affectionate Daughter Hagar Knight. To Mr and Mrs Knight, Sparrow Castle, Margate. (Hagar was about 13 when she sent this letter)
Newspaper report of the marriage of Herbert Frank GOATHAM and Florence Harriet ROBERTS in 1913.
    GOATHAM-ROBERTS
At the Salem Baptist Church, St Peter's on Saturday, Mr. Herbert Frank Goatham, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Goatham of the Bungalow, Northdown-road, St Peter's was married to Miss Florence Harriett Roberts, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roberts, of Providence House, Granville-road, Broadstairs.
Bride and bridegroom had for many years been members of the church, were children together at the Sunday School, and a large number of friends attended the wedding service, which was conducted by the Rev. J. T. Castle.
The bride, who was dressed in a cream costume, was accompanied as bridesmaid by her sister, Miss Annie Roberts. Mr. Stanley Goatham acted as best man.
The newly married couple afterwards left for Folkstone.
They were the recipients of a large number of presents.
Information received for David BURRIN on 12th January 2007 regarding the marriage of William Frank GOATHAM and Hagar KNIGHT. The age of William is shown as 23 which is lot younger than he appears on the 1891 and 1901 Census. This is possibly why I have not been able to find this side of the family on any Census before his marriage. David says they were married in Emmanuel Church, but does not say where, I have assumed Margate, Kent. It was definitely in Thanet, Kent as that is where the BMD records it. The witness John KNIGHT signed with a Mark. The father of William GOATHAM was Charles GOATHAM.
  9. 1861 Census - No 2 Prospect Place, Margate St John the Baptist.
1871 Census - 2 Sparrow Castle, Margate, Kent
1881 Census - 77 Milton Road, Margate, Kent. Joseph at 24 was Head of Household, his brother John and family were with him.
1891 Census - 30 Charets? St, Margate, Kent. Harriet was Head of Household on this Census. Joseph and family were with her.

The idea of these charts is to give the information that we have found in the research we have done and put together and with the help of many other people who have contacted us over the past thirty odd years we have been researching our family. The idea is that you click on the Chart box in blue to be taken to the next family. There is now a large number of charts to be found and connections can be made to all the main families I am researching. If a chart has a box with the standard background it means that as yet I have not put the Chart on the Web.
To conform to the Data Protection Act all the Charts have been altered to exclude all details for living people other than the name.
